PM issues directive to speed up reconstruction works



Kathmandu, March 29: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed concern over the delay in the post-earthquake reconstruction works and directed the employees concerned to expedite the whole campaign.
Inaugurating the seminar on reconstruction organised here today by the National Reconstruction Authority for the coordination among the related ministries, bodies and units, he said he has not swung into action as per the aspirations of the people and issued directives to the bodies concerned to carry out the reconstruction tasks in a speedy manner.

“I myself is not satisfied with the pace of entire works of the government as well as the reconstruction works. May be I might also be to blame for this but the delay in the reconstruction campaign in the pretext of other obstacles and impediments would not be tolerated. I am ready to do everything on behalf the Council of Ministers or parliament for that cause,” he said.

PM Oli stated that any employee making delay in works under any pretext from now on would be transferred and replaced by the one who works. “It would not be proper if building shelter to the earthquake victims takes decades,” he added.

Stating that the details of the extent of reconstruction works and the employees assigned for overseeing that work should be made public through the national media on a daily basis from now on, the Prime Minister also underlined the need of mobilising the youth volunteers in the reconstruction works.

PM Oli time and again urged for forwarding the reconstruction works with a new zeal and height while expressing concern over what he said was lack of progress in the reconstruction of the Rani Pokhari and Dharahara. He also questioned over the collection of only Rs 1.8 million so far for the ‘I Will Construct My Dharahara’ campaign with the contribution made by the ministers and some other persons, calling for support from the mechanism and the public in the campaign.

On the occasion, the Secretaries of various ministries are to make presentations on the reconstruction works carried out by them, the difficulties faced in that regard and the upcoming programmes while the Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyawali is to respond to the issues raised.

Home Minister Shakti Bhaadur Basnet, Minister of State for Local Development Kunti Kumari Shahi, Chief Secretary Dr Somlal Subedi, and the Chief District Officers and the Local Development Officers from various districts are present in the interaction. RSS
