Government policy and programmes receive mixed reactions from lawmakers

Kathmandu, May 12: Lawmakers speaking at a meeting of the Legislature-Parliament Thursday were divided over the government new policy and programmes as they aired views on its favour and against.

The vast majority of lawmakers from the opposition parties argued that the government’s new policy and programmes are just aimed at gaining immediate popularity. In contrary, lawmakers from the ruling parties defended the accusation from the opposition as they termed the policy and programmes ‘historic’ and development- oriented.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari on March 8 presented the government’s policy and programmes formulated for the upcoming fiscal year before the House. The Parliament meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday recorded lawmakers’ views on the government policy and programmes.

They voiced for laying focus on the post earthquake-reconstruction efforts, infrastructure construction and social security, urging the government to come up with a substantive plan to promote hydropower sector.

Guru Prasad Burlakoti, Rita Shahi, Raju Khanal, Hari Prasad Upreti, Nanda Bahdur Chand, Gangalal Tuladhar, Sakaldev Sutihar, Ganeshman Gurung, Kamala Panta, Yogendra Chaudhary, Rupa Maharjan, Anita Devkota, Tek Bahadur Basnet , Padma Narayan Chaudhary, Dilli Prasad Kafle, Taraman Gurung, Leela Magar, Dr Ganeshman Mandal, Rameshwor Phuyal, Radhechandra Yadav, Rhishikesh Pokhrel, Bahadur Singh Lama, Chudamani BK, Mohan Baral, Bidur Sapkota, Rewati Raman Bhandari, Dilman Pakhrin, Radhika Tamang, Jeevan Kumari Ghimire, Krishna Prasad Poudel, Kripasur Sherpa, Balbir Prasad Chaudhary and Janardhan Dhakal were among those giving their views on the government policy and programmes Thursday.

The Legislature-Parliament shall meet again at 10:00 am on Friday. RSS
