10 metric tons of waste collected from Bagmati River bank

Kathmandu, May 21: Around 10 metric tons of solid waste was collected from the bank of Bagmati River at Buddanagar area today marking the 158th week of the Bagmati Clean-up Campaign.

The participants of the campaign managed waste brought by the flooded Bagmati after Friday’s rains to its bank, according to High-Level Bagmati Civilisation Integrated Development Committee Project Chief Rajesh Singh. ‘We could not go into the river to collect waste as water- level in the river has increased following yesterday’s rains’, he said.
Around 500 people including the employees of Committee, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Armed, security personnel, and former students of Pokhara-based Gandaki Boarding School joined the river cleaning campaign.
Former Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudel, who is accredited for the launching of the campaign, was sighted joining the campaign.

The 159th week next Saturday will be observed at the same location, Committee’s Mala Kharel said. RSS
