Vote counting in 278 local levels over in 24 districts



Second phase of local polls today

KATHMANDU, July 4: Counting of votes under the second phase local level elections held in Provinces 1, 5 and 7 on June 28 has been so far completed for 278 local levels in 24 out of the 35 districts.

According to the Joint Election Operation Center at the Election Commission, the final results of the election have been declared in 278 local levels.

The final results of 56 local levels of 11 districts now remain to come, the Election Commission stated.

Counting of votes has been halted at one each local level in Kanchanpur, Udyapur, Sunsari, Morang and Jhapa districts due to the mismatch in the number of votes. Vote counting is ongoing in the rest of the local levels.

As in the first phase local level election, the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) are in competition in terms of the number of local levels that they have won in the second phase local election.

So far, the UML has won in 121 local levels, Nepali Congress in 105 local levels, Maoist Centre in 35 local levels, the Federal Socialist Forum in six local levels, Nepal Democratic Forum in five local levels, Rastriya Prajatantra Party in three local levels, the Rastriya Janamorcha in two local levels and an independent in one.
