Attack on Maoist Centre leader

DOLAKHA, Sept 8: CPN (Maoist Centre) Dolakha district leader Ram Dhungel has been critically injured in a physical attack on him on Thursday.

A person attacked the 33-year-old Dhungel with a khukuri, the traditional Nepali weapon at around 12 noon on Thursday. Dhungel from Lamidanda of the district is the party’s joint coordinator for Kalinchok rural municipality in the district.

He suffers from deep cuts in his head due to the attack. Khadka Bahadur Budhathoki alias Deuta, 40, had attacked Dhungel with the khukuri. Budhathoki is from Babare, Kalinchok rural municipality-2.

Budhathoki suddenly attacked Dhungel from behind while the latter had reached Jhorung at Laduk of Bigu rural municipality in connection with some work.

Budhathoki has been arrested and an investigation has been initiated in connection to the incident, the District Police Office, Dolakha said. Police suspect the attack might be motivated due to some past enmity.
Critically injured Dhungel was first brought to Charikot, the district headquarters for treatment. He was then airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment, it is stated. RSS
