Nation to mourn departed souls of Air Dynasty crash, declared public holiday on Thursday

KATHMANDU, Feb 27: The government has decided to declare Thursday (tomorrow) as national mourning day to pay tribute to those killed in Air Dynasty chopper crash that took place on Wednesday afternoon.

A cabinet meeting held at the prime minister’s official resident at Baluwatar, following the chopper crash, took the decision to mourn the departed souls and has also announced public holiday tomorrow.

Educational institutions, government offices and foreign missions abroad will remain closed on Thursday, according to Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa.

“The national flag will be hoisted at half-staff to mourn the departed souls,” he said.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari and six others were killed when a helicopter carrying them crashed at Dare Bhir of Taplejung at 1:30 pm Wednesday when they were en route to conduct a feasibility study of the proposed airport at Chuhandanda after visiting the Pathivara Temple.

The government has formed a four-member probe panel-led by Agya Prasad Gautam to investigate the incident.

Chairpersons of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that the country has lost a dependable youth leader while expressing grief over the incident, in a press statement.
