Nine injured as participants hurl stones on final day of Bisket Jatra

BHAKTAPUR, April 19: At least nine people were injured in clashes that took place during the ritual ceremony of pulling Hindu God Bhairav’s chariot on Thursday evening on the final day of Bisket Jatra in Bhaktapur.

The clashes flared up after the devotees participating in the ceremony started hurling stones at each other after the chariot smashed into a house at Banshagopal, according to the police.

Some of the injured fell from the chariot while pulling it, said Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rewati Raman Pokharel.

The injured–Maila Duwal, Rojesh Shilakar, Aashish Shilakar, Manish Kasula, Rimesh Shahi, Punyaram Sitikhu, all of Bhaktapur municipality, Umesh Kumar of Chandrapur in Rautahat district and Bikash Tamang of Deupur municipality in Kavre district–are receiving treatment at Bhaktapur hospital, said Pokharel.
