Chitwan, Aug 29 : The Chitwan Medical College has said it is making preparatiosn to freely perform PCR tests of 10,000 residents of the district through its newly-established medical laboratory.

The hospital has expressed his readiness to support the campaign against coronavirus while requesting for arrangement of necessary reagent for testing.

Hospital chairperson and managing director Prof Dr Harishchandra Neupane said they were ready to cooperate immediately as the people have to wait for a week for PCR report results.

“Awaiting one week for a PCR report is contributing to the spread of the infection. We are ready to discharge our social responsibility and support for prompt PCR tests and results”, he said.

Dr Neupane however urged the concerned authorities for the management of reagent which is being purchased only through government channels.

The CMC has set up a high-quality laboratory at the investment of over Rs 50 million. The machine can perform tests of 1,200 to 1,500 samples in a day.

A lab of the Bharatpur hospital has been conducting up to 500 sample tests a day. Neupane expressed willingness to support Bharatpur hospital lab to expedite the results process when the number of corona cases are alarmingly increasing in the district.

As many as 524 people have been so far diagnosed with the infection in Chitwan. Nine infected have died while undergoing treatment at hospitals in Chitwan and one breathed his last at homeRSS

Kathmandu, Aug 29 : Coronavirus infection has been confirmed in 884 people, including 186 in the Kathmandu Valley, in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Population said. Among the new infected cases, 242 are female and 642 male.

Ministry’s spokesman, Dr Jageshwor Gautam informed at a regular press briefing here this afternoon that 12 infected persons, including six in the Valley, died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The number of people died due to coronavirus infection has reached 207 so far.

Among the new cases found in the last 24 hours, one is from Ilam, 20 are from Jhapa, 19 from Dhankuta, 31 from Morang, three from Sankhuwasabha and 24 from Sunsari in State no 1. Similarly, 49 new cases were reported in Dhanusha, 73 in Parsa, 21 in Bara, 26 in Mahottari, five in Rautahat, two in Saptari 83 in Sarlahi and 22 in Siraha under State no 2.

Likewise, under Bagmati State, 155 new cases were registered in Kathmandu, 19 in Kavrepalanchowk, 57 in Chitwan, one in Dolakha, nine in Dhading, 12 in Bhaktapur, 19 in Lalitpur, nine in Makawanpur and one in Sindhupalchok district while under Gandaki State, three new cases were recorded in Kaski, 23 in Nawalparasi Purba and 29 in Lamjung.

Under State no 5, two new cases were found in Kapilbastu, one in Gulmi, 19 in Dang, 10 in Nawalparasi Paschim, 20 in Banke and 16 in Rupandehi district.

In Karnali State, one new case each was registered in Jajarkot, Jumla, Dailekh, Rukum Paschim and 10 new cases in Surkhet district while under Sudurpaschim State, 17 new cases were recorded in Kanchanpur, 19 in Kailali, three in Darchula, 26 in Bajhang and 21 in Baitadi district.

Dr Gautam said PCR test has been carried out on 10 thousand 971 people in the last 24 hours and so far 669 thousand 626 PCR tests have been done. The number of people in quarantine is 8,035 and 20 thousand 555 people have returned home after health recovery over the last 24 hours. Two districts, namely Mustang and Humla, have zero cases of COVID-19.

So far, 24 million 920 thousand 24 people have been infected with COVID-19 throughout the world while 841 thousand 486 have lost their lives to the pandemic. Seventeen million 303 thousand 818 people have recovered from COVID-19 the world over.RSS

Kathmandu, Aug 5 : Prohibitory order has been issued in several parts of 14 districts across the country in a bid to contain the further spread of coronavirus.

The infections rate is rising with the lifting of lockdown since the night of July 21. It may be noted that respective districts and local levels have been given the right to impose lockdown or take other restrictive measures against the virus being based on the infections rate in the given territory.

According to the Home Ministry, the order has been issued in Saptari, Dhanusha, Nuwakot, Banke, Morang, Parsa, Bara, Mahottari, Jhapa, Sunsari, Bajhang, Darchula, Sarlahi and Syangja. Parsa, Bara and Sarlahi have opted for the indefinite prohibitory order while remaining districts decided to implement it for certain days. RSS

Kathmandu, Aug 5 : Minister for Health and Population Bhanubhakta Dhakal has said government was committed to conducting coronavirus test on more and more people. At least 600 thousand people will undergo PRC test, he said at a meeting with media editors.

“The PCR tests will be increased as per the need. Those entering country via land will be kept in quarantine for two weeks before testing for the virus. Similarly, those coming to Nepal via air will be kept in five-day quarantine,” Minister Dhakal said, blaming the people that they did not become cautious resulting into growing cases of the coronavirus.

He made it clear that the country would not have nationwide lockdown as done before. “Lockdown modality will be discussed. Even the protocol of festival celebration has been passed by the Council of Ministers. Management will be stricter in Tarai districts on COVID-19 handling.

The Minister however said the earlier decision to open flights and long route bus service and schools will be considered. He hinted that the arrangement could be placed in view of the spread in neighbouring country India.

He further argued that Nepal has still low percentage of COVID-19 death- 0.27 percent. Even the World Health Organization and some countries have said Nepal has well managed COVID-19 pandemic.

On the occasion, Health Secretary Laxman Aryal said information on spending on control and prevention of COVID-19 would be shared every week.

Advisor at the Ministry, Dr Khem Karki, argued that there was no community transmission but cluster of cases in Birgunj.

Kathmandu, Aug 5 : A total of 381 fresh cases of COVID-19 has been recorded across the country today. Among the 6,359 new PCR test conducted in the last 24 hours, 381 persons were found to have contracted the flu-like infection, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

In the routine press conference by the Ministry here today, spokesperson Dr Jageshwor Gautam shared that the number of active cases stands at 6,174.

Similarly, altogether 9,925 persons have been kept in various quarantine facilities across the country. A total of 130 infected ones were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours taking the tally of recovered ones to 15,156.

Likewise, spokesperson Gautam informed that 1.4 per cent of the total population in the country were put to PCR test so far.

Districts like Parsa, Rautahat, Mahottari and Kailali recorded over 500 actively infected ones. In the last 24 hours, 57 new cases were reported from Kathmandu and five from Lalitpur.

Furthermore, 60 persons have died of the deadly infection so far in the country, according to Dr Gautam. The death of 19-year-old girl and 46-year-old man, both from Parsa district, takes the number of causalities from the coronavirus to 60.

Among the 77 districts in the country, there are presently no active case of COVID-19 in seven districts namely Khotang, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, Manang, Mustang and Rukum West so far, the Ministry said.RSS

Kathmandu, August 2 :The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) in Kathmandu has been sealed off after two of the traffic police persons were found infected with COVID-19.

The nasal and throat swabs collected from the suspected ones at the MTPD on Friday were sent to Nepal Police Hospital for the test, which resulted in two traffic persons contracting the infection.

MTPD Chief and SSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal shared that the MTPD was sealed off to curb further spread of the COVID-19.
Similarly, the MTPD having over 1,500 traffic persons have kept 375 of them in quarantine while rest others stationed in various places for traffic management, said SSP Dhakal.

All the services to be provided from the office of the MTPD have been halted since the office is sealed off. The services will resume after the report of the swab collected from the other suspected traffic persons come out, informed Dhakal.RSS / file photo

Kathmandu, August 2 : A total of 28 Nepali have died of coronavirus worldwide in the past seven days. According to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), among fresh deaths, 25 are in India, two in the Saudi Arabia and one in the South Africa. With this, the worldwide death toll of Nepali people from the virus has reached 189.

In a press statement issued from the UK this morning, the NRNA said that Nepali people residing in 38 countries in the world have been affected by the virus and most infections are in Maharashtra of India. Similarly, 35 Nepali who attended a family gathering in Luxembourg were infected once.

Meantime, it is said so far, 37,424 Nepali people left stranded abroad due to COVID-19 crisis have been brought back to home with the Nepali Embassy in the respective countries, diplomatic missions and other organisations. RSS

Kathmandu, August 2 : A total of 246 new cases of coronavirus infection were recorded on Sunday, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Jageshwar Gautam said in a regular press briefing this afternoon. These cases were identified during the tests on 8,861 individuals at different laboratories across the country in the past 24 hours.With this, the number of active cases in the country reached 5,672.

According to the Ministry, 31 new cases were confirmed in Kathmandu valley including eight from Lalitpur and one from Bhaktapur districts.
Similarly, a 68-year-old woman of Parsa district died of COVID-19 infection on Saturday evening. She was a diabetes patient too.
With this, the total number of deaths caused by COVID-19 reached 57 in the country till today.

Dr Gautam further shared that 72 per cent of the total infection got recovery from the virus while mortality rate is 0.25 percent so far.
He added that 10,934 individuals are quarantined across the country.

Likewise, altogether 111 people returned home after complete recovery from the virus in the past 24 hours.
With this, the number of home returnees after recovery reached 14, 603. Spokesperson Gautam stated that there is not a single case of the corona virus in Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Rasuwa, Manang and Mustang districts.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has urged one and all to adopt health precaution measures, appealing to the people aged above 60 and kids under 12 to stay inside their homes.RSS

Kathmandu, 16th July 2020: Altogether 167 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the country, taking the COVID-19 infection tally to 17,344 as of now.

In a routine media briefing organized by the Ministry of Health and Population here today, Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr Jageshwor Gautan shared that a total of 4,981 nasal and throat swabs were tested in 27 labs across the country in the last 24 hours in which 167 new cases of this deadly infection were confirmed.

Dr Gautam further shared that altogether 213 COVID-19 patients were discharged from treatment facility in the last 24 hours upon their full recovery. With this, a total of 11,249 COVID-19 patients recovered from the infection and were sent home.

WASHINGTON, July 11:The United States recorded 63,643 new coronavirus cases on Friday, according to a tracker maintained by Johns Hopkins University.

As of 8:30 pm (0030 GMT Saturday), 774 people died of COVID-19 in the country in the past 24 hours, the Baltimore-based university said.
The worst-hit country in the world by the pandemic, the US has recorded a total of 133,969 deaths out of 3.18 million cases.
Thursday saw a record surge in cases, with 65,551 new infections. Experts fear there will soon be a spike in deaths.
In recent days, Texas and Florida reported record numbers of virus deaths.

“As a country, when you compare us to other countries, I don’t think you can say we’re doing great,” top infectious disease official Anthony Fauci told political analysis website FiveThirtyEight on Thursday.

President Donald Trump, for his part, hit out at the respected scientist, telling Fox News: “Dr Fauci is a nice man, but he’s made a lot of mistakes.”

The US leader, who continues to downplay the spike in coronavirus cases, traveled to outbreak hotspot Miami on Friday for a high-dollar campaign fundraiser and other events. (AFP)
