Kathmandu, Aug 3. Former captain of Nepali National Cricket Team, Paras Khadka, has announced his retirement from the international cricket.

“With utmost clarity, respect and gratitude, I have now decided to retire myself from playing International Cricket,” he announced through his Twitter post today.

“Playing for Nepal has been my biggest achievement and for that I will always be indebted towards my coaches, players, fans, stakeholders, friends and family for their continuous support over the last 18 years since I started as a young 15-year -old back in 2022,” the 33-year-old cricketer wrote on the Twitter.

He went on to say that as a cricketer, he has given his heart, blood and soul and has always dreamed to achieve better for his country.

As he shared, his ultimate dream is to see Nepal have a better cricketing system for which he has spent all his energy in the last two decades and to improve it will require matching support from everyone in the cricketing community and beyond. “I believe with everyone’s honest effort and intentions, we will be able to do so.”

Khadka took over the captaincy for the Nepali Cricket Team in 2009 and he took this responsibility till 2019.
He has experiences of playing 10 one-day internationals and 33 T-20 tournaments.

The right-handed batsman had played with 315 runs in the one-day international and 799 runs in the T-20.
He made his debut for the senior Nepali team against Malaysia in April 2004.

Kathmandu : Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane played in style in today’s match against Guyana Amazon Warriors under Caribbean Premier League at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.

The right-arm leg spin bowler, who is playing for Jamaica Tallawahs, took a wicket for four overs conceding only 12 runs. With this, he claimed five wickets in four matches earlier. In the10th over, Lamichhane conceded only three runs. In the 12th over, he dismissed Sherfane Rutherford giving four runs. Rutherford hit only one run.

Invited into bat first after losing the toss, Guyana Amazon Warriors made 108 runs in the allotted 20 overs at the loss of nine wickets. Jamaica Tallawahs achieved the 109-run target in 18 overs losing five wickets. With this win, Sandeep’s team Jamaica Tallawahs is placed in the fourth position with four points. The team has won two matches and lost two matches. Guyana Amazon Warriors is put in the third place with four points. It has won two matches and lost three matches. Kathmandu, Aug 5 : Bikas Malla has been designated the goalkeeper coach of the Nepali national football team.
The technical committee of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) nominated Malla as the new goalkeeper coach.

Earlier, Malla had served the national football squad as an important team member. He was also the former captain and goalkeeper of the Tribhuvan Army Club of Nepal Army.

Malla had played football from national team from 2005 to 2013. He was the product of ANFA Academy.

ANFA said Malla will replace Japanese goalkeeper coach Hero Mitsumaru in the national team.
Malla has been designated the responsibility of the goalkeeper coach in view of the FIFA World Cup, 2022 and AFC Asian Cup, 2023. RSS

Kathmandu, July 1 : The National Sports Council (NSC) has recommended Chumbi Lama and Dharma Raj Giri to the post of member of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Executive Committee. The recommendations were made as per the provision to nominate two persons from the NSC to the Association.

With the nomination of Lama and Giri, the CAN Executive Committee has finally got full shape after a long gap of nine months.

Lama has already served as Chief Operating Officer of CAN in the past and is the managing director of the Queens Event, that hosts the Pokhara Premier League.

Likewise, Giri is the Vice-chair of the Madan Bhandari Sports Foundation’s Cricket Department.RSS

KATHMANDU, May 16: The government is to lay emphasis on sports infrastructure construction works in the fiscal year 2020/21. Presenting the government’s policy and programmes for the next fiscal year in the joint session of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly here on Friday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari said works on construction and upgrading of sports infrastructures would be continued at the national, State and local level in FY 2020/21.

It is stated in the government’s policy and programme that the capacity of athletes would be enhanced enabling them to secure maximum medals by involving them in the international, national and regional level sports competitions. It may be noted that Nepal had hosted the 13th South Asian Games in December last year. Nepal had clinched maximum 51 gold, 60 silver and 95 bronze medals so far in this sports competition.

Similarly, the government’s policy and programmes document states that upgrading and construction of well-equipped sports infrastructures would be continued at all the three levels. Similarly, works would be forwarded for establishing a high altitude sports training centre. The government has adopted a policy of encouraging the construction of sports infrastructures at the initiation of the private sector. The government had allocated Rs 3 billion 990 million to the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the last fiscal year’s budget. RSS

KATHMANDU, April 14: Swimmer Gaurika Singh said her father had contracted the COVID-19 disease but is now safe from the virus.

In a new year’s message, the winner of four gold medals at the 13th South Asian Games stated that her father, Paras Singh, completed 14-days quarantine on Monday and has recovered. Paras is serving as a doctor at the National Health Service in England.

“Today is not only the start of a new year, but it also marks the end of our 14-day quarantine. Two weeks ago, my dad got the coronavirus symptoms. It’s been a pretty scary fortnight, but he has now recovered,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

“But many thousands of people have not been as fortunate,” she added while urging one and all to stay inside to protect ourselves and as well as others to contain the deadly virus.

“While key workers battle on the frontline, we have to collectively do our bit by isolating,” she further wrote.

She also wished a safe and healthy new year ahead.

Originally hailing from Bhimdutta Municipality, Kanchanpur, the-17-year-old lives in London with her parents.

The virus has infected more than 88,000 people and killed 11,329 in the United Kingdom.  According to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), about 100 people in the UK have contracted the virus while eight have lost their lives.
