Chairman Yadav says NC & UML had nexus with Ex-King

Kathmandu, February 21. Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Nepal (MJF-N) Chairman Upendra Yadav accused Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML of having a nexus with the former monarch Gyanendra Shah before the announcement of republicanism.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Friday, Chairman Yadav has said so in the light of Shah’s urge to implement agreements reached with him while settling the 2006 Janaandolan.

Shah, in his message on the eve of Democracy Day on Wednesday, had asked political parties to implement the agreements made with him, without explaining what they were.

Madhesi leader said the former king as well as NC and UML should reveal what they had agreed for, speaking at the program presided by the Reporters’ Club Nepal’s president Rishi Dhamala.

Yadav claimed, “NC-UML’s repeated wish for ceremonial monarchy and reluctance to announce the republicanism before the first meeting of the first Constituent Assembly (CA) prove the partnership.”

Meanwhile, Yadav reiterated that the CA should issue the new constitution on the basis of consensus. The head of a major constituent of UCPN-Maoist-led 30-party opposition alliance warned of intense protests if ruling parties ignored their demands for consensus. If ruling parties express a commitment to implement past agreements, the opposition forces are ready for talks, he maintained.

NC-UML coalition should realize that they cannot implement the statute unilaterally without the opposition and correct the errors, he said.
