Kathmandu, Feb 28: A clash ensued between the cadres of the 30-party alliance led by UCPN-Maoist and security personnel after the former forcefully crossed the prohibited zone in New Baneshwor on Saturday.

Police fired tear-gas shells and used water cannon to disperse the protestors.

The disgruntled oppostion parties have organised a mass gathering in the Capital today to demonstrate their strength in the street and to pile pressure on the ruling parties to promulgate a new constitution on the basis of consensus.

UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has led the rally from Kamalpokhari, while senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai from Kalimati and Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha from Koteshwor.

Similarly, top leaders of the Madhes-centric parties have led the rallies from Babarmahal.

The rallies would merge at Khulamanch before the programme, which would be addressed by the top leaders of the alliance.

With the rallies begun from various places of the Capital city, the vehicular movement and the people’s mobility have been affected.

The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division has said traffic police have been mobilised in different parts of the Capital city in view of the traffic disruption.
