Kathmandu, Dec 15 (RSS): Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwor Pokharel has assured of effective administrative and financial management as per the federal structure of the nation.
Inaugurating the 24th anniversary celebrations of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and the Mahanagar Festival in Basantapur today, he promised coordinated efforts by the three-tier governments to serve the meaning of federalism.
The Deputy Prime Minister went on to say that Nepal switched to a federal structure through a political decision, but we had been unable to exercise model federalism in view of administrative and fiscal aspects. As he said, the upcoming parliament winter session would spend time to formulate laws required to ensure the effective implementation of the constitution.
He was of the view of the execution of priority-based development plans to develop the KMC, a site rich in cultural and archaeological heritages, through a new way.
Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Lal Babu Pandit, pledged to systematise the Bancharedanda landfill site for the sustainable management of waste generated by the town.
“Planned programmes for waste management have been initiated which would contribute to environment management and urban beautification efforts.”
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari underlined the need of cooperative role among the three-tier government for the protection and promotion of metropolis’ culture and heritages of archaeological significance.
On the occasion, province 3 chief minister Dormani Poudel described the metropolis as a reflection of history, culture and tradition, highlighting the necessity of cooperation among three level governments for its planned development and prosperity.
According to Kathmandu mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya, planned programmes had been commenced for the systematic urbanisation in the metropolis along with the protection of heritages.
Deputy-mayor Hariprabha Khadgi vowed to work in coordination with stakeholders concerned to make the Kathmandu city well managed and prosperous.
On the occasion, the DPM released a souvenir published by the KMC office. Kathmandu’s first mayor Janakman Shrestha was honoured on the occasion while several people including journalists, organisations, and individuals were honoured in recognition of their support to the KMC from respective areas and maintain its good governance.
