CPN-Maoist’s strike cripples life nationwide



KATHMANDU: Normal life across the country including capital city has come to a grinding halt due to a general strike called by the CPN-Maoist today.

The CPN-Maoist said that today’s nationwide general strike was called to protest the arrest of its cadres in Dailekh in connection to murder of journalist Dekendra Raj Thapa as well as protesting the Chief Justice-led election government.

Short and long routes vehicles have remained off the road from early morning, forcing the commuters to walk on foot to reach their destinations.

The banda enforcers vandalized a vehicle belonging to the Kantipur Television at New Baneshwor and next one of Sagarmatha Television at Mid Baneshwor at around 5:30 this morning. Both the vehicles were used to carry the journalists to their offices.

Similarly, the CPN-Maoist cadres vandalized two vehicles in Jhapa this morning. According to police, the Maoist cadres smashed the windowpanes of two vehicles (Me 1 Ja 730 and Me 1 Ja 1694) a tea estate region along the Chandragadhi-Birtamod roadsection.

Earlier, police personnel and CPN-Maoist clashed on Monday evening at Birtamod injuring at four persons including a policeman.
