Local poll soon: DPM Thapa

Kamal Thapa

Kathmandu, March 13: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Kamal Thapa today said that elections of the local bodies would be held soon.

Speaking at the ninth district council of Kathmandu District Development Committee here today, DPM Thapa said that it was essential to hold local body elections as development endeavors at local level have been affected in the absence of people’s elected representatives.
“The country has entered to a phase of new era. There is no longer any transition or political instability in the country as in the past. Local body elections should be held at the earliest to take the country to a new direction,” he said.
On a different note, saying that it was not that easy to promulgate the constitution in the face of pressure from different political parties and foreign force, he said “Despite some shortcomings, the constitution is progressive as it has followed existing international norms and values.”
