Govt to annul extra fees levied on workers going to Malaysia

KATHMANDU, May 17: The government has started initiatives for repealing the additional fees that is taken under various headings from Nepali workers going to Malaysia for foreign employment.

The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security is to annul the additional fees charged in a unilateral and arbitrary manner. This would be done through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs taking the diplomatic initiatives in the country concerned.

Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Gokarna Bista announced this, organizing a press conference today.

On the occasion, Labor Minister Bista said that the provision of the workers going to Malaysia having to undergo health checkup only at the 39 medical clinics that do not figure in the labor agreement between Nepal and Malaysia would be removed and they would be required to undergo checkup at all health institutions operating as per the law in Nepal.

He also said that the Rs 125 additional fee taken per head from the workers in the name of online mygram while undergoing health checkup, the Rs 2,800 and VAT charged at the Malaysian embassy in the name of integrated service charge (OS), the Rs 3,200 taken as migration security and the Rs 3,200 for the online processing of visa fees would be rescinded as these were all illegal and uncalled for.

This decision would save a Nepali worker nearly Rs 18,000. Some 150 thousand Nepalis go for foreign employment to Malaysia annually. RSS
