Mass hunger strike at Basantapur in support of Dr KC (In photos)

KATHMANDU, July 22: Supporters of medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC have started a mass hunger strike at Basantapur Durbar Square in Kathmandu on Sunday.

The program, organized by ‘Solidarity for Dr KC Alliance (SDGA)’, is being participated by members of the general public as a way to express solidarity with Dr KC’s fast-unto-death.

Advocate Om Prakash Aryal, human rights activist Krishna Pahadi, among other civil society representatives and members from other organizations participating in the strike to press the government for address the demands of Dr KC.

Dr KC has been staging hunger strike for the last 23 days demanding that the National Medical Education Bill tabled in the parliament be withdrawn and the recommendation made by the Mathema commission be included in the bill.

Around 100 people registered their names to join the campaign. The hunger strike started at 10 am and will end at 5 pm.
