National Security Council presents annual report to President



Kathmandu, Dec 14 : Prime Minister and National Security Council (NSC)’s chairperson KP Sharma Oli today presented the Council’s annual report for the fiscal year 2074-75 BS report before President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

The Prime Minister presented the report before the Head-of-the-State amidst a special ceremony at the Office of President, Shital Niwas. The report was presented in accordance with the constitutional provision.

On the occasion, President Bhandari advised the NSC office bearers to execute management-related works including the formulation of policies so as to make the nation’s overall security system more effective and strengthened by facing both conventional and new security challenges.

The constitutional provision relating to national security (Article 266) states that there shall be a National Security Council for making recommendation to the government of Nepal, Council of Minister for the formulation of a policy on overall national interest; security and defence of Nepal, and for the mobilisation and control of the Nepal Army .

Historic background about the NSC; provisions relating to the national security, international, regional and internal security context have been analyzed in the report.

Presenting the present before the Head-of-the-State, Prime Minister and Council Chair Oli has said presently there seemed no national and regional security threat and the status of nation’s peace and security was normal. Issues implemented in a period in the aftermath of the federal, province and local elections at home have been incorporated in the report.

The report acknowledged the role and contribution of Nepal Army mobilised by the NSC decision in holding the election without any fear and in peaceful and impartial atmosphere.”

The report presents in-depth analysis about issues incorporated in the report are related to international terrorism, impact of climate change; regional and internal security challenges; criminal activities of divisive forces and armed groups; refuges’ problems and mutual cooperation among the regional countries.
