NC Central Working Committee meeting soon: Spokesperson Sharma

Bishwo Prakash Sharma

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Newly appointed spokesperson of Nepali Congress Bishwo Prakash Sharma has said that the party is preparing to hold Central Working Committee meeting within a few days to review the loss in recent federal and provincial elections.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Sunday, leader Sharma said, “The central working committee meeting will review the election loss and carry out discussion regarding ways to move the party ahead strongly in the coming days.”

He further said that the working committee meeting will also decide about the meetings of General Assembly and special Convention.

Sharma was appointed NC spokesperson on January 10.

He also argued that the NC should search for the youth leadership in order to transform the party.

“Time has come to breathe new life to Nepali Congress. We will start remaking the party. But the medicine for the party, in the present circumstances, would be ‘retirement’ of the leaders who are above 70 years.”

He was of the opinion that a party is not driven by the age of a political leader but by the agendas.

Spokesperson Sharma also clarified that NC has not offered or tried to tempt anybody to become prime minister with an intention to break the left alliance. He said, “These are just street rumors. We have not said anything like that. It is also our wish that CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) get united. My best wishes to them.”

He also said that the government will soon appoint province chiefs and temporary capitals and added that they will transfer the power to a new government after the completion of National Assembly election.
