Nepal government pushes CA elections for mid April, prepares full-fledged budget ordinance

KATHMANDU: Amid stern opposition from opposition parties, Nepal’s Maoist led coalition government pushed CA elections date for mid-April and prepared a full budget ordinance of Rs 300.461 billion.

A cabinet meeting on Tuesday afternoon took these bold decisions and has also decided to forward the budget ordinance to President Dr Ram Baran Yadav by evening today informed government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communication Raj Kishor Yadav.

” The date of the CA elections will be decided later on by holding consultation with opposition political parties,” said minister Yadav stating that the CA election date, which presently is set for November 22, was pushed as opposition parties have unofficially agreed on holding the elections in mid-April.

Along with that the government is expecting that the President will endorse the budget ordinance. However, in his meeting with UCPN Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal on Tuesday morning, the President had made it clear that he will not endorse a full budget ordinance without consensus from opposition parties.

Confronting the President’s denial, and opposition from the opposition parties- led by Congress and UML, the government also extended the tenure of Special Committee for the Integration, rehabilitation and montioring of Maoist PLAs by one month. The Minister claimed that the tenure was extended considering some unfinished business of the committee.
