Not necessary to accept caretaker govt’s decisions; we have no consent on guvs appointments: Oli

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Thursday has hinted on removing the province chiefs appointed by the incumbent government.

The Nepali Congress-led government finalized the province chiefs of all seven provinces on Wednesday, sharing the top posts between itself and the Madhes-based parties.

But Oli has expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s decision saying that Deuba appointed the chiefs and temporary capitals without UML’s consent.

The government appointed Govinda Subba as governor for Province 1, Ratneshwor Lal Kayastha for Province 2, Anuradha Koirala for Province 3, Baburam Kunwar for Province 4, Umakanta Jha for Province 5, Durga Keshar Khanal for Province 6 and Mohan Das Malla for Province 7.

“Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has nominated province chiefs disregarding our proposal in the first agreement. The government had discussed about the plans but the names were neither discussed nor agreed,” said would-be Prime Minister Oli while talking to media persons upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Oli had reached Thailand for his routine health checkup on January 10.

“This is a caretaker government formed to conduct elections. Thus, it is not necessary that we should follow the caretaker government’s decision,” Oli added.

“They turned blind eyes to our proposal. So, we will think about issue and take appropriate decision in a suitable time,” he furthered hinting at the chances of removal of the chiefs by the new government.
