NSU President Mahar steps down from the post

KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Nepal Students Union (NSU) President Nain Singh Mahar has stepped down from the post on Monday.

Mahar’s resignation comes amid the crisis when the both Nepal Congress and NSU central committee is divided over whether to continue the existing leadership by extending its term or form an ad-hoc committee to hold election.

Mahar submitted the resignation to NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba. NSU is the student wing of the main opposition party NC. The extended term of the Mahar-led committee expired last month, before the general election.

“It will be unwise to stay in the position when central committee’s legitimacy is under question,” said Mahar in a press meet, who has been leading the organization for more than two and half years.

The incumbent committee was elected in 2016.
