KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Co-chairman of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has reiterated his stance as expressed in the press statement he issued over the political crisis in Venezuela.
“The statement on Venezuela political crisis was a political statement and it was issued with an objective of not tolerating any kind of external intervention on the internal affairs of any sovereign and independent country,” said Dahal at a press conference jointly organized by the Press Chautari Nepal and Press Center on Thursday.
“The statement on the same issue by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been issued on the same base and spirit as my statement.”
“NCP has already clarified its official position over the issue. The party secretariat meeting in the presence of the prime minister has already accepted my previous stance and concluded the same. Therefore there is no confusion over the issue in the party,” he added.
Dahal’s statement follows the comments of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, another co-chair of the NCP, who, earlier, in a television program, had termed Dahal’s statement as a ‘slip’ and ‘insignificant comments’. “Prachanda should not have rushed to issue a comment on Venezuelan political crisis. It wasn’t an issue we would have to speak about. Those were unnecessary words,” Oli had said in the program.
“The party has collectively responded to Venezuela situation. Therefore, Individual comment doesn’t matter after the party has already issued the statement over the issue,” said Dahal.
On a different note, Chair Dahal also said that the joint press statement from various foreign countries’ envoys on the peace process of Nepal even in the absence of prime minister and foreign affairs minister was irrelevant and unnecessary interest of these foreign diplomatic missions.
He also shared that the government was gaining speed in developmental agendas but it will take time to materialize vividly.
