Police arrest Kathmandu in-charge of Chand’s group

KATHMANDU, July 21: Police have arrested the Kathmandu Valley in-charge of Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ on Saturday.

Maila Lama, considered to be a key leader of the outlawed Biplav group, was arrested from Kandaghari of Kathmandu at midnight yesterday following a special tip-off, according to Chief of the Metropolitan Crime Division of Nepal Police SSP Sahakul Thapa.  He was arrested along with his aide, Resham Tamang.

Lama is believed to be a member of the talk team from Biplav’s party to hold negotiations with the government.

Lama had reached Kandaghari from Kavrepalanchowk to mourn the death of Tamang’s father. According to police, he was arrested hours after he reached there.

Lama was in the wanted list of Nepal Police for his involvement in bomb explosions that took place in various parts of the capital.

The police are preparing to file culpable homicide charges against Lama for his involvement in Nakkhu bomb blast that killed one and left two injured.
