Prez Bhandari lauds govt attorneys’ roles



Kathmandu, Dec 23 : President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that the government attorneys had a special role to make the criminal justice system stronger and ensure its effective implementation.

Inaugurating the Second National Assembly of Government Attorneys organized by the Office of Attorney General in the Capital City on Sunday, President Bhandari opined that the government attorneys should work effectively as they were given rights for acquisition of criminal cases.

President said “State has allocated the responsibility of acquisition of cases to the Office of the Attorney General. Therefore the office should work cautiously so that the culprits could be booked.”

Speaking in the same programme, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stressed on crime control and effective investigation of the crimes.


The PM also said that the investigation process should be forwarded minutely so that no one could raise question in the process.

On another note, Prime Minister Oli urged the officials concerned to work seriously for social justice and equality.

Underscoring the objective and professional investigations into the crimes, Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra said that good changes have been recorded in the behavior and attitudes of the government attorneys lately.

The government attorneys were advocating the issues based on the proper investigations, he observed while underscoring the need to increase such working style.

Also speaking at the programme, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timalsina opined that if the lawyers throughout the country would understand the constitution of Nepal and newly introduced civil and penal codes in uniformity, it would be easier to achieve success in works.

Furthermore, Attorney General Agni Kharel shared that conference would prepare strategic action-plan for the institutional development of the government attorneys and for the future.

Similarly, Nepal Bar Association President Sher Bahadur KC argued that Nepal should be mindful about various international conventions and treaties it has signed and should not take anyone’s lives in the name of encounter. He rather suggested bringing culprit to justice on the legal ground.

Likewise, Inspector General of Nepal Police Sarbendra Khanal said that police could not function properly without the effective investigation and pressed for victim-based investigation method. On the occasion, the best government attorneys were honoured.

President Bhandari honoured Deputy Attorney General Kiran Poudel with the ‘Attorney of the Year’ award and medal. The three-day event is attended by around 300 government attorneys throughout the country. (RSS)
