SAARC Programme Committee meeting starts



Pokhara, March 14: The Programme Committee meeting under the ongoing 37th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Council of Ministers’ meet is currently underway in the scenic city of Pokhara.

The meeting taking place at Grand Hotel of the renowned lake city is being presided over by Foreign Ministry’s Joint Secretary, Mani Prasad Bhattarai.
The Joint Secretary said the Programme Committee meeting will be held today and tomorrow under the 37th SAARC Council of Ministers’ meeting. The meeting is being attended by SAARC member states’ foreign and external affairs ministry joint secretaries.
The meeting will review and assess the post – 18th SAARC Summit activities, decisions of the past meetings and its implementation. The report prepared by the two day meeting will be presented before the Standing Committee meeting.
As per the 37th SAARC Council of Ministers’ calendar of activities, the Standing Committee meeting comprising of foreign secretaries of the eight member states will take place on March 16. On March 17, a ministerial meeting of the foreign and external ministers of the member states will be held.
The meeting is being hosted by Nepal as it currently holds the SAARC Chairmanship. The SAARC Council of Ministers meeting is being held for the first time outside of the capital city in SAARC’s history.
