BAITADI, Jan 24: Power supply has been obstructed in Baitadi district for the past four days due to wind, rain and snowfall.

According to Power Distribution Centre of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Baitadi, the electricity supply has been obstructed from Monday after the power supply line of 33 KV National Transmission Line was broken following the wind and snowfall.

Problem has surfaced to carry out maintenance of the line due to continuous snowfall and rainfall. Baitadi folks are out of contact and radio service as well as media houses have been affected due to the disruption of power supply.

Similarly, the district witnessed hailstorm, rainfall and snowfall on Wednesday. Transport service along the Dasharath Chand Highway and Jayprithvi Highway has been obstructed following the heavy snowfall, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Baitadi, Netra Mani Giri, said. BAITADI, Dec 9: CPN-UML’s left alliance candidate Damodar Bhandari has been elected as the House of Representative member form Baitadi district. Bhandari garnered 39,524 votes to defeat his contender from Nepali Congress Nar Bahadur Chand. Chand only got 28, 291 votes.

Likewise, UML’s Liladhar Bhatta has secured victory in Province Assembly ‘B’ of Baitadi. He garnered 20,318 votes to defeat Rastriya Prajatantra Party candidate Ganesh Chand who only got 15, 247 votes.

Similarly, in Baitadi ‘A’, CPN (Maoist Center)’s Prem Prakash Batta emerged victorious. He secured 18,093 votes while his contender from Nepali Congress got 15,126 votes.

BAITADI, May 20: Windstorms accompanied with heavy rainfall have blown away roofs and overhead covers in as many as 19 schools here inflicting a loss amounting to millions.

As per the data provided by the District Education Office (DEO), the windstorms have caused a damage of Rs 3.6 million and obstructed regular classes.

According to District Education Officer, Lal Singh Ter, the windstorm has caused the most damages to the Sudarshan Secondary School of Melauli Municipality and Mahadev Secondary School in Purchaundi area. The two schools incurred a loss of Rs 550,000 and Rs 350,000 respectively.

The storm has blown off roofs of Kafalasaini Secondary School at Pujari village, Pujarikhet Elementary School, Kedar Primary School, Ganesh Secondary School at Lekam settlement and Shiva Lower Secondary School. The roofs of Kalika Secondary School, Siddhapur, Bhubaneshwor Secondary School, Lower Secondary School Pachkota, Nepal Rastriya Lower Secondary School and Deumada Primary School have also been blown away, DEO stated.

The schools’ managements have been forced to shut down the school during rainfall as it is not possible for them to run classes without a covering overhead. Education Officer, Ter, added that the District Natural Disaster Relief Committee will provide tarps to the schools where children cannot immediately sit down for classes. RSS
