Kathmandu, Aug 12. International Youth Day is being celebrated all over the world including in Nepal today. The day is also being celebrated in Nepal under the slogan ‘Transformation in Food System: Youth Innovation for Human and Global Health’.

On the occasion of the day, President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will deliver a video message at a program organized by the National Youth Council at 10.30 am today. Various non-governmental organizations related to youth are also celebrating the day with variety of programs across the country.

Vice-chairman of the Council Madhav Dhungel said that the day is being observed virtually due to the corona virus pandemic. The Council has been conducting youth related programs on the occasion of the day since last year. In order to address the issues of the youth, the United Nations has decided to celebrate August 12 every year since 1999 as the International Youth Day.

In Nepal, the day was celebrated for the first time in 2004 under the leadership of organizations working with youth. It has been officially celebrated since 2016 under the leadership of the Council. The government has been working on youth leadership development by forming the National Youth Council in 2015. In Nepal, youth constitute 40.3 per cent of the total population. RSS

Sindhuligadhi, July 28. Statues of four fighters who had defeated the then East India Company force in the battle of Sindhuligadhi, safeguarding the integrity and the nation, have been unveiled in Sindhuli.

Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa unveiled the statues of the historic personalities amidst a programme here today. Kaji Banshiraj Pandey, Shreeharsha Pant, hunting officer Banshi Gurung and Khajanchi (cashier) Bir Bhandra Upadhyaya had bravely fought in the Sindhuligadhi battle with the East Indian Company’s army in the month of Asoj in 1824 BS.

The statues were built by the Kamalamai Municipality in collaboration with the Nepali Army. Similarly, President Bidya Devi Bhandari inaugurate the Nepal’s first war museum established at Sindhuligadhi today itself. Following the inauguration, the Museum will be handed to the local government. The Museum features arms/weapons and documents relating the Nepal-East India Company historic war.

Sindhuli, July 28: The Nepal Army-initiated construction of a war museum has come to a final shape. President Bidya Devi Bhandari is inaugurating the museum today. Nepal Army had constructed the museum building at the cost of around Rs 70 million.

A contract was signed with New Dragon Siddhagadhi JV Koteswor for the construction of war museum. The architect of the design was developed by Architechnic Development. Likewise, the interior design and decoration was made by Dhulikhel-based Alternate Infrastructure Pvt Ltd.

The museum has displayed portraits of the war-time characters, timeline of Sindhuligadhi war, warfare from the military lens, documentary of Sindhuligadhi war, pictures of phase-wise war, domestic weapons used in the then wars, war-time arms, arms and ammunitions used by British troops, Nepali warriors, British warriors, painting of Nepali warriors, Mithila art, monument built before the names of British warriors, wartime stone carvings and historical documents. A library has also been set up as part of the museum.

The construction of the war museum was initiated in January 2019 A.D.at Sindhuligadhi, a historical site carrying the legacy of the defeat of the British army during the unification of Nepal.

According to knowledgeable people, Gorkha troops under the command of Banshu Gurung had defeated the well-equipped British troops led by Captain George Kinloch in famous Sindhuligadhi battle in 1767 AD. RSS

Kathmandu, July 2 : President Bidya Devi Bhandari prorogued the ongoing budget session of the federal parliament with effective from 5 pm today. It was carried out on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers as per Article 93 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.

Chairperson of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina read out the letter proroguing the session of the parliament received from President Bhandari. Apprising the meeting of works executed by the NA during its sixth session, NA Chair Timilsina said the NA met for 35 times in 31 days from April 28 to July 2 (60 hours and 50 minutes).

The NA passed many bills during the time including National Sports Development Bill, 2075, Nepal Special Service Bill, 2076, Policy Research Foundation Bill, 2076, Seed (Second Amendment) Bill, 2075, Nepal’s Constitution (Second Amendment) Bil, 2077, Appropriation Bill, 2077, and Finance Bill, 2077.

Likewise, other bills that NA passed include Bill Designed to Provide for Right to Mobilise National Loan, Bill Designed to Amend the Loan and Guarantee Act, and Bill Designed to Replace the Bill for Retaining the Existing Arrangement of Nepal Act by Abrogating some Ordinances, 2077, Federal, State and Local Level (Interrelation Management) Bill, 2077 and Citizen’s Investment Trust (Second Amendment) Bill, 2076.RSS

BEIJING, April 28: President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who is currently on the State Visit to China, has urged the Chinese investors to invest in Nepal.

During a meeting with the Chairman of Economic Joint Committee under the Chinese Commercial Stock Enterprises and the senior officials of China-Nepal Economic and Trade Forum on Sunday.

On the occasion, President Bhandari thanked the Chinese officials for organizing the meeting of China-Nepal Economic and Trade Forum and reminded that Nepal had a stable government and created a favorable atmosphere for investment.

Investment is imperative for Nepal’s development, she underscored.

The meeting will discuss trade, bilateral assistance and investment. The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Chief Minister of State-3, Dormani Poudel, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Nepali Ambassador to China and high-level officials from Nepal government and representatives from private sectors. BEIJING, April 27: Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed the various Heads of State and Governments attending the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation for a ‘Leaders’ Roundtable’ under the Forum on Saturday.

The Roundtable is taking place at the Yanqi Lake International Convention Center located in the outskirts of Beijing, some 35 kilometers from Beijing International Airport.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has also arrived at the Convention Centre to attend the Leaders’ Roundtable taking place as part of the BRF.

The roundtable is focused on different sessions including ‘Boosting Connectivity to Explore New Sources of Growth’, ‘Strengthening Policy Synergy and Building Closer Partnership’, and ‘Promoting Green and Sustainable Development to Implement the UN 2030 Agenda.

KATHMANDU, March 29: President Bidya Devi Bhandari is set to make her first address to a joint meeting of the Federal Parliament, since she was reelected as the President on March 13.

As scheduled, the President will address the joint meeting of the parliament, which was constituted following the elections to the House of Representatives and National Assembly, at 4.00 pm this afternoon.

According to Parliament Secretariat Spokesperson Dr Bharat Raj Gautam, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, House of Representatives Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara and National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Timalsina, among others will receive President at the conference hall.

Speaker Mahara will chair the joint assembly.

KATHMANDU, March 7: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has filed her candidacy for the election of President. Bhandari filed her nomination at liaison office of the Election Commission located at International Conference Center, New Baneshwor, at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, according to President’s Chief Secretary Bhesh Raj Adhikari.

Bhandari’s candidacy is proposed by former Prime Minister and UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Vice-chair Bhim Rawal, General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel, former Speaker Subash Nembang and former Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar and seconded by Maoist Center leader Ram Bahadur Thapa, UML’s Bishnu Poudel, Gokarna Bista, Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal and Rabindra Adhikari.

Earlier, a meeting of the CPN-UML Party Standing Committee, which took place late until Tuesday night, had decided to field incumbent President Bhandari as its presidential candidate.

Prior to the meeting, party chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had held consultations with party senior leaders Jhalanath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal in this connection. Khanal’s was also considered as the UML’s probable candidate for the post of President. Although there was debate within the UML whether to field Bhandari as the Presidential candidate again or to give candidacy of a new face on behalf the party, the standing committee ultimately decided in Bhandari’s favor.

RAI REGISTERS CANDIDACY 

Meanwhile, Presidential candidate from Nepali Congress Laxmi Kumari Rai has also registered her candidacy. Earlier, a meeting of the Central Executive Committee of NC decided to field Rai as the candidate for the post of President. Rai’s candidacy is proposed by Chitra Lekha Yadav, Man Bahadur Bishwokarma, Parbati BC Chaudhary, Devendra Raj Kandel, Surendra Raj Pandey and seconded by Mekh Lal Shrestha, Sarita Prasai, Shiva Chandra Chaudhary, Sujata Pariyar and Radha Ghale.

The nomination, which started at 10:00 am, will take place until 2:00 pm in the afternoon.

Bhandari has the support from the left alliance, UML and Maoist Center, who command majority in both upper house and lower house of the parliament, and is likely to be reelected as the President. Incumbent President Bhandari will resign after a new one is elected.

The election for the President is scheduled for March 13.
