LISBON, PORTUGAL, Aug 13: Nepali Congress Spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma has stressed the need to chart out the future course by institutionalizing democracy and federalism.

Addressing the 10th annual general meeting of the Nepali Janasamparka Samiti Portugal on Monday, Spokesperson Sharma clarified that the main agenda of the NC was to institutionalize democracy and federalism.

He claimed that the country could make progress only through NC’s ideological line and parliamentary systems.

There is no way but to institutionalize the achievements yielded through a shared struggle and address the remaining issues through joint efforts. “Attainment of power through authoritarianism and the use of force is never accepted. It should be gradually transformed through the path of democracy”, he added.

Sharma underscored the need to cleanse the politics highlighting political transformation as a shared future course.

The communist party and the incumbent government should correct their ways to address the issues of Madhesh and indigenous nationalities and rebellion of the Netra Bikram Chand-led group, he suggested.

NC is eager to help the government to address the political issues propping up in the country, he said, urging the communist government to discharge its responsibility in a more honest manner.

Lauding the role of Non-Resident Nepalis in the making of the country, he said arrangement would be made to grant citizenship certificates to the Non-Resident Nepali across the globe as per the Nepal Constitution.

The notes from the foreign countries do work but why not the votes, he questioned. Sharma pledged that the NC would take initiative to equip NRNs with citizenship certificates bestowing franchise and property rights.

“We should feel proud to be a Nepali citizen. The emotional unity should be strengthened along with physical development and expansion”, he added.

Also speaking on the occasion, Nepal Tarun Dal’s general secretary Bhupendra Jung Shahi commented that the government was a failure from different dimensions. The program was chaired by Samiti President Binod Ghimire. RSS
