KATHMANDU: UCPN Maoist has warned to boycott Constituent Assembly following poor result in vote counting of second Constituent Assembly elections.

Party Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal, who also lost in Kathmandu’s constituency number 10, said that his party wont enter the CA if their request for reviewing vote is not considered by the Election Commission and other political parties.

“We wont participate in the CA, if our request for vote count review is not taken positively,” Dahal said during a press meet organized by the party in morning.

His statement came after the party became the third leading party in the ongoing vote count. As per the latest vote count, Nepali Congress has maintained lead in 17 out of 40 constituencies. CPN-UML has followed the NC with lead in 10 constituencies. UCPN-Maoist is leading only in 6 constituency. Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic in 4. RPP-Nepal, MJF-Nepal and Sanghiya Sadbhawana Party have are ahead in one constituency each.

Dahal has lost election to Nepali Congress’s Rajendra KC in Kathmandu’s constituency number 10 by securing a total of 17,382 votes. He became third with 11,351 votes as UML candidate secured second position by securing 11,518 votes.

Following his uproar, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala issued a press release and has expressed confidence that the UCPN Maoist will embrace the election result and public mandate as a democratic insitution.

However, Dahal said that his party will soon call its central committee meeting to review existing condition and party’s future policy.

KATHMANDU: Visiting influential Indian political leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has said India was looking forward for Nepal to hold CA elections at the earliest and draft the new constitution at the earliest.

Prasad, who is foreign affairs department chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Deputy leader of the party in Indian Rajhya Sabha said so while addressing a press meet at the Reporters Club Nepal on Surnday morning.

“It is upto Nepalese people and political parties on how to hold CA elections by bringing all the dissenting political parties into confidence,” he said adding that India was expressing its compliments to the Nepalese people to hold CA election on the proposed date.

Speaking at the program presided by the Club’s president Rishi Dhamala, Prasad said that India and other nations looked forward to see democracy flourish in Nepal and does not supports any types of governance or constitutional model. ” These are things that Nepalese people and political parties will decide, all we are looking forward is that democracy and republicanism should flourish in Nepal by ending the present status quo.”

He said that it is Nepal’s political parties and Nepalese people’s task to decide a date for CA elections and added that India is always ready to support Nepalese endeavors for it.

Stating Indian people, government and political parties fully respected sovereignty, integrity and unity he stressed on the need of increased cooperation between both nations to see tangible development in educational, social, economical, health and other sectors in Nepal.

On the occasion, he stressed on fostering cultural relativity between both nations on the basis of mutual respect.

KATHMANDU: Talks between the High Level Political Mechanism participating 5 political parties and the disgruntled 33 party alliance led by the CPN Maoist took a nasty turn on Saturday.

The meeting ended on a negative note after the HLPM member five political parties denied to accept the 5 point proposal tabled by the 33 parties. The HLPM member parties claimed that the demands were against their commitment of holding Constituent Assembly elections on November 19.

Following their denial to negotiate on the demands presented, the the disgruntled 33 parties claimed that there was no point in discussion as the HLPM were not willing to reach a consensus.

Earlier the parties had agreed to form a new national consensus by resolving all contentions by forming a autonomous round table conference, the organizing committee of the round table conference will have representative from the HLPM and 33 party alliance members, the round table conference will have participation from HLPM, 33 party alliance and political parties representing in the erstwhile CA, and that the representatives of various ethnicity and regions will participate in the conference as observer.

The five point demands of the 33 parties presented today included fresh date for holding CA elections, formation of a political party government, reaching consensus on the contentious issues of the new constitution, process for drafting the new constitution, remaining issues of the peace process, and remaining issues of 18 point demand charter should be discussed in the round table conference.

However the HLPM leaders denied to dicuss the demands stating that they were against the spirit of drafting the constitution through the Constituent Assembly .

They cleared it out they were not in favor of deferring the November 19 CA elections, and called on the 33 party alliance to come up with more flexibility to hold talks.

Kathmandu: CPN Maoist chairman has said that his party will not comprise with its demand of dissolving the incumbent government and accepting the present CA election date.
Speaking at a program organized as part of Reporters Club Nepal’s initiative to call on political party leaders to create conducive environment for holding CA elections, Baidya expressed such statement. His statement came a day after the major political parties agreed for holding round table conference to sort out differences among political parties for holding CA elections.

“We wont compromise under present status quo. We wont accept the incumbent government and present CA election date.” Baidya said adding that “ a new government and a new election date should be declared through the round-table conference participated by all the political parties representing the erstwhile Constituent Assembly.”
While accepting a memorandum from Reporters Club Nepal’s President Rishi Dhamala, Baidya said that his party has already made this stance clear to major political parties and other members of the High Level Political Mechanism.
He said that future strategy and political discussion will move as per the 18 point charter presented by the CPN Maoist led dissident parties alliance and added that no political parties can deflect from participating in the conference.
“ Round table conference is essential for all party consensus. Talks between parties have been positive and we are looking forward to make them meaningful to resolve crisis,” Baidya added.
He said that all parties representing in the dissolved CA will be participating in the conference and expressed confidence that the process to hold the conference will be decided within few days.
On the occasion, Dhamala said that Club is hopeful of bringing positive changes in politics through its present initiative and expressed hope that parties will resolve the status quo very soon.

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the high level political mechanism slated for Sunday afternoon has been affected due to the band called by dissenting political parties led by the CPN Maoist.

The meeting was slated for 3 pm Sunday to discuss the recently announced CA election date and the dissatisfaction expressed by some political parties.

Coordinator of the the HLPM said that the meeting was called considering the interest of the dissenting parties who have brought the whole nation to a stand still.

A new schedule for the meeting has not been ascertained yet. However Gachadar said that a new date for the meeting will be decided by evening today.
