KATHMANDU, Nov 5: The Offices of Chief Election Officer and Election Officers in 45 districts allocated election symbols on Sunday to the candidates for the second round of House of Representatives and State Assemblies elections. The second phase of the election is taking place in 45 districts on December 7 this year.

According to Election Commission spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal, elections symbols were given to the eligible candidates who filed their candidacies on November 2 for 128 seats under the House of Representatives election and 256 seats towards the State Assemblies.

A total of 4, 747 candidacies were registered for the second round of elections and candidacies of two were revoked, four were scrapped while of 258 were withdrawn, as stated by the EC. However, the final list of the candidates getting the election symbols is awaited.

KATHMANDU, Nov 3: A total of 4,708 candidates filed their nominations for the second phase election taking place on December 7, according to the Election Commission. Of which, 1,742 have filed nominations for the House of Representatives election while 2,966 for the State Assemblies.

The second phase polls will elect 128 House of Representatives members and 256 Province assembly members from 45 districts.

Likewise, 334 women candidates filed their candidacy, of which, 126 for House of Representatives and 209 for Province Assemblies elections.

COMPLAINT FILING AGAINST ELECTION CANDIDATE STARTS

Meanwhile, time for filing of complaint against the candidates for the upcoming second phase elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies has begun. The Election Commission has fixed 10:00 am to 17:00 pm today to register a complaint against the candidate at the respective office of Election Officers.

Thursday marked the completion of the registration of candidacy for the second phase of elections scheduled for December 7.

The EC is scheduled to investigate into the complaints against the candidates tomorrow and publish the approved name list tomorrow itself.

November 5 has been declared as the day for publishing the final list of candidates and for allocating election symbols to candidates.

KATHMANDU, Oct 29: The CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) are all set to finalize their common candidates in all constituencies for the second phase of federal and provincial elections by Monday.

A meeting of the party merger coordination committee took a decision to this effect on Sunday.

Maoist Center Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal shared that they almost finalized the names of common candidates in most of the districts and remaining constituencies of some districts will also be finalized on Monday.

She added that they failed to finalize on Sunday for being the last date for submitting the revised closed lists for federal and provincial elections under the proportional system.

UML Publicity Department secretary Bishnu Rijal shared that the UML has already finalized the proportional candidates for the provincial elections while such candidates for federal elections will also be finalized today itself. RSS

KATHMANDU, Oct 23: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has finalized its candidates contesting the first phase of the House of Representatives elections on November 26 from five places. The RPP candidates would be vying in the election on behalf the Democratic Alliance.

Accordingly, party chairman Kamal Thapa will be contesting from Makwanpur-2, vice-chairman Rajib Parajuli from Parsa-2, general secretary Rajendra Lingden from Jhapa-3, Kunti Kumari Shahi from Dailekh-1 and Bikram Thapa from Kathmandu-7.

Party spokesperson Bhuwan Pathak said that the Democratic Alliance has agreed to give seven election constituencies to the RPP and selection of the candidates in the remaining two constituencies still remains to be decided upon.

The RPP has so far fielded the candidacy of Sonam Tamang from Dhading (B) constituency, Ganesh Chand from Baitadi (B) constituency, Bhim Prasad Gauchan from Myagdi (A) constituency to contest the State Assembly election from the Democratic Alliance.

The RPP is also organizing election assemblies in all the seven provinces, party spokesman Pathak said. RSS

KATHMANDU, Oct 21: The major ruling party, Nepali Congress, has finalized its candidates to contest in the House of Representatives and State Assemblies elections taking place in 32 districts on November 26.

NC central committee member Dr Prakash Sran Mahat told media persons on Saturday that that the party decided on the candidates in line with the electoral alliance it reached with the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, the Naya Shakti Nepal, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the RPP(Democratic).

The NC’s top leaders including senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel had held discussions at the Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar until Saturday evening to finalize the candidates from the party.

According to the source, Naya Shakti Nepal which has entered into an electoral alliance with the Congress has been offered two electoral constituencies while the RPP (Democratic) has been allocated only one constituency.

As per this, the Naya Shakti Nepal will field its candidates from Gorkha constituency-2 and Rasuwa and the NC will support these candidates. Similarly, the RPP (Democratic) will field its chairman Pashupati Shumser Rana from Sindhupalchok constituency-2 with the support of NC.

RPP and the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal will however field their candidacies for the State Assembly elections only. RSS

KATHMANDU, Oct 10: Nepali Congress has formed a parliamentary committee to nominate the candidates for coming elections of House of Representatives and of provincial assemblies.

Leader Bimalendra Nidhi informed that Prime Minister and Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba formed the parliamentary committee after holding consultations with the party leaders on Tuesday. However, he did not mention the names of the committee members.

The recent central committee meeting of the party had authorized President Deuba to hold consultation with the leaders to form the committee for picking the candidates to field in the coming elections. RSS

KATHMANDU, May 18: The Nepali Congress is to finalize the name of its candidates for the second round of local-level election within May 26. The second round of local-level election is taking place on June 31.

A meeting of the top leaders of the Nepali Congress held at the party headquarters today took the decision in this regard for the candidates to prepare for the election by formulating the party’s strategy for the second-round of election, said Chief Secretary of the Party Office, Krishna Prasad Poudel.

The meeting decided to take initiative to create environment for the participation of all in the election. The NC has started consulting with other parties to bring the Madhes-based parties on board the election by approving the constitution amendment proposal which is under consideration in the Legislature-Parliament.

The meeting also discussed regarding making extensive preparation in further effective manner for the second round of election as well as reviewed the result of the first-round of local-level election, said NC General Secretary, Dr Shashanka Koirala.

Saying discussion was also held on formation of NC-led government, he expected that a new government would be formed under the leadership of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba as per the agreement reached between NC and CPN (Maoist Centre) at the time of the formation of the present government.

The Party also directed all its mechanisms, sister organisations and well wisher organisations to carry out preparation in order to get the best result in the coming election, drawing a conclusion that the result so far party is getting was not as expected. RSS
