RATNANAGAR, Aug 14: The Chitwan police have arrested 12 people from different parts of the district on charge of their involvement in suspicious activities.
According to Superintendent of Police, Sushil Singh Rathaur, a police squad which was mobilized since the last night for security purposes took such a number of people from different areas under control.

Some of them had stones and lighters in their pockets, while some others were forcing people to shut down market, and some were held for doubtful conduct.

They all are under investigation and police are trying to find out whether they have connections with the Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand (Biplav) involved in violent activities.

Normal life here remained affected today due to a banda announced by the party.
Public vehicles operating on short and long routes remained off the roads because of the banda.

Schools, academic institutions, main market areas, and factories and industries were closed. According to SP Rathaur, there is a report about the detection of a suspicious object at Bharatpur-based Rijal Chowk and a bomb disposal team has already been sent to the site. Security in the district has been beefed up and no untoward incident has been reported so far.

Meanwhile in Kailali, party cadre Chhabilal Oli from Sukkhad Bazar has been arrested by police as he was forcing people to close down the market. Oli serves as the party chief for Ghodaghadi Municipality.

As stated by District Police Office’s chief Superintendent of Police Binod Ghimire, normal life remained affected while the transport, business and educational sectors were totally shut. RSS

Vehicles have stayed off the roads and the market and factories, and schools and colleges are closed due to the banda. Today’s banda is called after the administration did not release party cadres though it was given ultimatum until 5:00 pm yesterday to release them, said Jit Narayan Shrestha, Nepali Congress District Secretary.

Pramish Rai and Yam Bahadur Karki were arrested on the charge of assaulting a Nepali driver who was driving a vehicle bearing the Indian number plate in Bharatpur, Chitwan.

They were arrested three days back. Realizing the Islam festival Id, vehicle carrying Muslims people are not obstructed, said the party.

The traffic system was blocked from early morning due to landslides at Darechowk near Mugling caused by heavy rainfall.

According to the Area Police Office, Mugling, the highway that was obstructed from 8:30 am resumed after around two hours.

Earlier, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the way.  But, now they have headed for their destinations after clearing the landslips.

Property worth Rs. 40 million was gutted in the fire, proprietor of factory Nawaraj Lamichhane said.

However, Chitwan District Police said the details of loss are yet to be ascertained. The plywood, machines and other materials in the store were completely destroyed in the fire.

No human casualty has been reported in the incident.

The fire started due to short-circuit at 4:00 am and was brought under control at around 7:30 am today, said police.

Locals, Nepal Army, and Nepal Police doused the fire with the help of three fire fighters.

CHITWAN: The Second National Scout Jamboree has kicked off at Tikauli in Chitwan district today.

Chairman of Nepal’s Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi inaugurated the function. On the occasion, Regmi said that roles of disciplined youth was vital in all spheres of the society. He also urged the youths for their active support and participation in the upcoming CA polls.

The organizer said that preparation for the jamboree was where as high as 5,500 scout members including 500 foreigners would participate.

 Altogether 222 Indians, 32 Finnish, six Pakistanis, 20 Malaysians, 91 Bangladeshis and one scout each from Japan, Luxemburg, and USA will be participating in the jamboree.

The scout was established in 2009 B.S. and the first jamboree was organized in 2043 B.S. at Kirtipur, Kathmandu. The second jamboree is being organized in Chitwan this year after 26 years.

The jamboree will conclude on April 15.

CHITWAN: A man died in an elephant attack at Madi of Chitwan last night. The deceased is Ambar Bahadur Thapa, 68, of Madi Gardi-1. Police said that Thapa was attacked by the elephant from the Chitwan national park at his doorstep while he was coming out of his home at 11 pm.

The folks of Madi area are hard hit for years as the elephants, rhinos and other wild animals from the national park are destroying the crops almost every year. RSS
