KATHMANDU, July 30: Leader of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) Mahendra Raya Yadav has accused the government of not showing seriousness toward gathering two-thirds majority in support of the under-discussion constitution amendment proposal.

“The government has tricked us time and again making false promise that they would pass the amendment proposal. The ruling parties can gather 388 votes to form the government; why can’t gather two-third majority in favor of the bill,” Yadav vented ire during an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Sunday.

Stating that the government is not putting serious efforts to gather two-thirds majority he added, “No more lies.”

“The proposal is likely to get endorsed at present.”

“I demand that the government put the proposal to vote at the parliament immediately. RJPN is ready to accept the result whatsoever,” added Yadav.

He also demanded that the government withdraw criminal charges filed against the party cadres, compensate those injured in Madhes movement and give martyrdom status to those injured during the Madhes protest.

He further accused the government of forcing his party to boycott the first and second round of election. “We wanted to participate in the polls. But no favorable environment was created for us. The government made a serious mistake by disregarding our party demands and forcefully conducting election.”

“If the government disregards our party demands again, it can lead to conflict in the country,” Yadav warned.

Constitution amendment proposal will be put to vote in within two days: Pun https://nepalireporter.com/2017/07/38796 https://nepalireporter.com/2017/07/38796#respond Sun, 30 Jul 2017 08:45:30 +0000 http://nepalireporter.com/?p=38796 waterLeader of the ruling party CPN (Maoist Center) Barsaman Pun has said that the government is preparing to put the currently under-discussion constitution amendment proposal to vote in the legislature-parliament within two days.]]> water

KATHMANDU, July 30: Leader of the ruling party CPN (Maoist Center) Barsaman Pun has said that the government is preparing to put the currently under-discussion constitution amendment proposal to vote in the legislature-parliament within two days.

“We have already decided to give a conclusion to the proposal,” said Pun while speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Sunday.

“The Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RJPN) should prepare itself to accept the result whatsoever. The ruling parties are candidly trying to gather two-thirds majority in support of the proposal,” he added.

The ruling parties have 392 lawmakers on their side and are shy of three more votes in favor. Currently, the legislature-parliament has 592 members and the bill needs 395 lawmakers to endorse the amendment proposal.

On the other side, the opposition parties need 198 lawmakers to reject the bill. But, they only have 193 lawmakers, and need five more votes to fail the proposal.

While, the agitating RJPN has remained adamant on their stance that the government should address its demands including the endorsement of the amendment proposal currently stuck at the parliament.

“RJPN should carry their carry their agenda to the election even if the proposal fails to get endorsed,” he said adding, “A party’s agenda doesn’t fade away. Any parties should become ready to carry on to their agenda as per the circumstances. We had advocated for a system of government with directly elected executive president; but we showed flexibility on that agenda while promulgating constitution. And now, again our party has decided to carry the same agenda to the election.”

Reckoning that the Madhes-based parties had greater contribution in People’s Movement in Nepal, he argued that the genuine and justifiable demands of the RJPN have to be addressed as soon as possible.

Pun also urged the main opposition party CPN-UML to show some flexibility over the amendment proposal. “UML’s stance that the amendment proposal is anti-nationalist and influenced from foreign interest is only extremist thinking: which UML should give away, he said.

He also argued that there is no alternative to conducting the Province and Federal election on the same day as the deadline is coming near. “We don’t have enough time to conduct elections of Province and Federal separately with the January 21, 2018,” he said.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has already urged the Election Commission to immediately begin preparation for the provincial and federal election stating that both elections will be held on the same day and before the deadline. However, the government is yet to officially announce it.

KATHMANDU, July 21: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is to support the constitution amendment proposal registered at the Legislature-Parliament.

The party central working committee (CWC) meeting that ran for three days from Wednesday took a decision to this effect.

The meeting, deciding to adjust the party organizations at all 744 local levels, handed the responsibility of taking a decision on whether to join the government to its central work execution committee.

The party concluded that its defeat in the local level election was due to inability to take the party agenda to the every local unit effectively.

The meeting demanded the government to print the image of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of modern Nepal, on currency notes so as to ‘promote’ the feeling of national unity among the Nepalis.

Endorsing the political report presented by party chair Kamal Thapa, report on the comments of the local level election by general secretary Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan and the report on party organisational structure and future strategy tabled by party another general secretary Jayant Chand, it has constituted an election mobilization committee for the Province 2 under the convenorship of party vice chair Buddhiman Tamang.

However, party senior leader Pashupati Shamser Rana abstained throughout the meeting.

The meeting, pledging to establish party principles in line with the constitution at the backdrop of the country’s main law adopting the worldwide democratic practices, stated that the party would play a crucial role to hold the parliament and provincial elections on time.

Wishing for speedy recovery of ailing former King Gyanendra Shah, the party has demanded an old-age allowance to citizens above 60 years of age.

The meeting also decided to form the Religion and Culture Council for the establishment of Nepal as a Hindu nation and for the protection of the religions as Bauddha and Kirat which fall under what is called the ‘Omkar Family’ of religions.

Making public the decisions taken by the meeting, party chairman Kamal Thapa reiterated that the party would participate in the upcoming elections as a united block by addressing the dissatisfactions and the differing views seen in the party. RSS
