The administration enforced the curfew to prevent the clashes between the Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist cadres that ensued over a petty issue between the CPN-M cadre Manoj Budhathoki Magar and NC cadre Ghanshayam on June 8.

Similarly, talks between the agitating parties and officials held last night also made no headway. The talks were initiated by the Federation of Nepali Journalist Jumla chapter.

The talks ended inconclusively after the CPN-Maoist refused to sit for talks as its two members of talks team were arrested by the police, said former lawmaker Naresh Bhandari.

The administration enforced curfew after the situation turned tense following the protestors set the residence of CDO Pandey on fire. Police also arrested some protestors too in connection to the incident.

The locals and cadres of the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist had staged protests demanding construction of roads and bridges to connect the district headquarters Martadi.

At least 20 police personnel have injured while equal number of locals were also injured after a clash ensued from early this morning. Police have lobbed dozens of tear gases to take the situation under control after thousands of locals demonstrated.

Shreshta was missing some one and a half months ago. Police and locals have suspected Shrestha’s hand in her murder.
