KATHMANDU, Feb 10: Main opposition party Nepal Congress leader Dr Narayan Khadka has said that it was not necessary for the government to issue a press statement on the United States intervention on Venezuela political crisis.

After the US decided to give recognition to Juan Guaido—who on January 23 proclaimed himself as the interim president setting up a tense standoff with current president Nicolas Maduro– as the leader of Venezuela, Dahal denounced the US move as “unacceptable intrusion in internal affairs and an attempt of imperialist coup’.

“It was not necessary,” said Dr Khadka at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Sunday.

“After Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli returned from Davos, the government issued another press statement continuing Dahal’s statement but it actually failed to clear any air of confusions between Nepal and the US.”

“Nepal and the US have diplomatic ties since 1947. The US has been extending a huge financial aid to Nepal. But the government’s statement has only strained the US-Nepal ties,” he added.

On the occasion, Khadka also said that the incumbent government has failed.

“The government has not been able to address the hopes and aspirations of the people.  The one year performance of the government is hopeless.”

KATHMANDU, May 14: Nepali Congress leader Dr Narayan Khada said that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Nepal visit was apparently successful, and argued that such bilateral visits will be limited to ritual if the crucial issues are failed to be addressed.

“This is Modi’s third visit to Nepal. We have taken this visit very positively. The Indian prime minister’s visit, which came only a month after Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli made his first overseas trip to India, is a sign that Modi want to move ahead together with Nepal correcting course,” said Khadka at a face-to-face interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club on Monday.

“But we are yet to see the outputs of this visit,” he added.

Stating that Modi’s third Nepal trip was a great opportunity of Nepal to raise some of the crucial issues, he added that the visit should have addressed the crucial issues such as border disputes, trade deficit. “They should have finalized the issue of Detailed Project Report of Pancheshwor Multipurpose Project,” he added.

“If crucial bilateral issues are not addressed during such high level visit, such visit will only remain as rituals,” he expressed his concerns.

He also expressed his dissatisfaction over Province 2 Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut speech during the civic reception organized to felicitate the visiting Indian PM MOdi.
