MAHOTTARI, Aug 31: The police have arrested 28 people from various places of the district on the charge of electricity theft.

A joint team of the police and Armed Police Force on Thursday arrested them in the course of a monitoring at the request of Jaleshwor-based distribution center of Nepal Electricity Authority, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Khagendra Bahadur Khadka. The arrestees were found to be hooking electricity to their houses.

They would be released after charging them between Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 each, said Khadka. The NEA branch has launched a drive against power theft in the district in response to complaint about electricity theft. RSS

GAUSHALA, June 10: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Mahottari Distribution Center has collected Rs 1.7 million in fine after a clampdown on electric power hooking.

Centre’s Chief Hardev Prasad Gupta said a total of 195 people were arrested for stealing electricity from September last year to June this year. The amount was collected in fine slapped against them.

NEA team accompanied by Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) personnel also seized television sets, motors, fans, power inverters and stabilizers from houses involved in stealing electricity.

The Centre also cut off power supply to 945 customers that have not paid months of due electricity bills. RSS
