KATHMANDU, Aug 5: Everest Science Center Nepal (ESCN), the first and only science center in Nepal, has launched “Science center- at people door steps” campaign. The campaign will primarily aim at simplification of science and technology throughout the country.

“Nepal is lagging far behind the rest of the world in science and technological research. There is an urgent need for technological advancement in the country so as to leapfrog past our global peers. I hope this campaign will objectively cater the need to young students to think and explore beyond the theoretical science education taught in Nepal’s schools,” said Dilip Adhikari, Chairperson of the Center, organizing a press conference at the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Saturday.

“The campaign is focused on increasing public interest in participating in science and technology by using specially-designed equipment made from readily-available and low-cost material,” he added.

Located at Barju rural municipality-5, Santiban of Sunsari district, ESCN was founded in 2001 as a private independent organization, basically focused on providing scientific knowledge with the help of easy-to-understand demonstrations.

On the occasion, Adhikari also announced that the center has opened application for the life time membership to the students.

The interested students can apply for the membership till December 31, 2017. One can get membership paying only NRS 100, informed the organizer.

Once a student get the life time membership of the science center, the students will be provided with several facilities, such as free entry to the center and Santiban, 25 percent discount in entre fee to any visitor who come with the lifetime members and others attractive discounted offers in the Planetarium show, science and space camp. The members will also be given free access to the science magazine published from the center, said the organizer.

“The center presents science as recreation to the public. This lifetime membership scheme will make science and technology accessible to the public with the help of exhibits, demonstration shows and workshops,” said Adhikari.

“Join us. Let us build the nation together. If you don’t have time to visit us, let us come to you,” he added.
