ILAM, Sept 17: The Manebhanjyang customs office based in Suryodaya municipality-1 of Ilam is being operated relying on an office assistant.

The subordinate customs checkpoint under Ilam-based Pashupatinagar customs office of the eastern hilly region is entirely run on the capacity of a single assistant level employee.

Only serving at Manebhanjyang customs office now is Office Assistant Laure Ghimire while four people had been designated earlier to look after the customs works.

With the failure in equipping adequate human resource, the unlawful import and export of goods including smuggling has been on the rise in the checkpoint.

This is the point through which Nepal’s vegetables and herbal products with medicinal values are exported to India and daily consumptive goods being imported to Nepal from India.

It has also resulted in decreasing trend of revenue collection. In short of human resources, the customs office is generating revenue of Rs 20, 000 to Rs 25,000 per month. RSS

ILAM, Sept 9: Lightning strikes exploded seven transformers in Suryodaya Municipality and Maijogamai Rural Municipality in the eastern Ilam resulting in power cut to hundreds of the local people. The incident took place on Thursday.

It has been four days since the explosion, but the damaged transformers are yet to be repaired. More than 900 families are forced to live in the dark with the discontinuation in the electricity supply.

Transformers at Suryodaya Municipality-1, 2, 3, 10, 11 and Maijogamai Rural Municipality-3 have been damaged by lightning strikes, said Rabin Babu Ghimire, Ilam branch chief of Nepal Electricity Authority. The damaged transformers would be repaired soon, he added. RSS

ILAM, Nov 8: A Nepali migrant worker from Phakphokthum rural municipality-1 of Ilam district died in Malaysia on November 5.

Arjun Limbu, 2, working in a furniture shop located at Johor Bahru, Malaysia, died of a heart attack when he was sleeping in his room.

The body of Limbu has been kept in a local hospital, said Yogen Ghimire. The company has initiated preparations to send the dead body back to Nepal. RSS

ILAM, Oct 13: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Ilam has recommended candidates for the elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies to be held on coming November and December.

RPP has recommended Yograj Lamichhane as a candidate from Ilam Constituency-1 and Lal Bahadur Dangi from Constiteuncy-2 to contest the House of Representatives election under the first-past-the-post category.

Likewise, the party has recommended Indra Kumar Lama and Rishikesh Ojha from Constituency 1 for the State Assemblies under the first-past-the-post category and Leela Devi Shrestha and Ganesh Bahadur Chauhan under the proportional representation category.

According to RPP Ilam Chairperson, the party has recommended Nasib Rai and Pratap Chapagain for State Assemblies from the Constituency-2 under PPTP category while Dig Bahadur Koirala, Maya Chauhan, Jeevan Pandey and Damodar Dahal have been recommended as candidates for the House of Representatives under proportional representation category. RSS
