Vehicular movements, schools, markets and industries have closed in the districts.

The Committee has demanded a fair probe into the murder of Kamlari Srijana Chaudhary and proper management of the Kamlari, identity cards, among others.

The committee has warned to continue the banda until and unless their demands are addressed.

However, the Committee has withdrawn the general shutdown in the districts of Tarai from today.

Tarun Dal announces Dolakha shutdown indefinitely https://nepalireporter.com/2013/06/12745 https://nepalireporter.com/2013/06/12745#respond Mon, 03 Jun 2013 06:13:03 +0000 http://nepalireporter.com/?p=12745 DOLAKHA: The Nepal Taraun Dal (NTD) has announced an indefinite Dolakha district shutdown today to protest the YCL attack on its leader.  NTD leader Sanu Sherpa was attacked by the YCL cadres on Sunday after the group of Sherpa, also a contractor, attempted to take away the scrap of the bulldozer.

Normal life in the district is affected due to the strike as schools, market places and factories have closed while the vehicles to and from the district have not run due to the strike.

The Nepali Congress’ youth organization NTD has demanded a stern action to the YCL cadres involved in Sunday’s incident. Charikot, the district headquarters of Dolakha, had remained tensed throughout the day on Sunday after frequent clashes ensued between the side. Dolakaha district is considered a stronghold of the Maoists.

JHAPA: Normal life has been crippled in the Limbuwan state of the eastern region for the third consecutive day today due to an indefinite strike called by the Federal Limbuwan State Council.

The  Council called the strike demanding that the citizenship distribution, and voters list collection process be stopped until the agitating fringe parties’ demands regarding the Constituent Assembly elections were addressed.

The life in eastern districts including Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasahba, and Terathum were badly affected while there was nominal impact in Morang and Sunsari.

People, who had to work for two square meals a day and passengers heading to different destinations were hit hard. Academic institutions, market areas, industries have been shut down due to the banda .

Meanwhile, the banda enforcers torched two motorcycles in Jhapa and pelted stones on the passenger bus in different places, according to the District Police Office, Jhapa.

Police arrested 11 people in connection to the incidents.

Srijana Chaudhri Tharu, 12, of Dang district who was working as a Kamlari in the house of Yubraj Poudel at Chakupat in Lalitpur had committed suicide inside the room on 27 March.

However, the leaders of Tharu communities have claimed that Srijana was murdered. They have enforced the shut down seeking action against the guilty and fair investigation of the incident.

Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur and Dang fall in the Tharuhat region.

The CPN-Maoist said that today’s nationwide general strike was called to protest the arrest of its cadres in Dailekh in connection to murder of journalist Dekendra Raj Thapa as well as protesting the Chief Justice-led election government.

Short and long routes vehicles have remained off the road from early morning, forcing the commuters to walk on foot to reach their destinations.

The banda enforcers vandalized a vehicle belonging to the Kantipur Television at New Baneshwor and next one of Sagarmatha Television at Mid Baneshwor at around 5:30 this morning. Both the vehicles were used to carry the journalists to their offices.

Similarly, the CPN-Maoist cadres vandalized two vehicles in Jhapa this morning. According to police, the Maoist cadres smashed the windowpanes of two vehicles (Me 1 Ja 730 and Me 1 Ja 1694) a tea estate region along the Chandragadhi-Birtamod roadsection.

Earlier, police personnel and CPN-Maoist clashed on Monday evening at Birtamod injuring at four persons including a policeman.
