KATHMANDU, Feb 23: Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri and Chinese Ambassador Yu Hong have extended best wishes to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on his 67th birthday.

Ambassadors Puri and Hong separately called on PM Oli at his official residence in Baluwatar on Friday morning and extended birthday wishes.

Also, a cake was cut at the outset of the UML standing committee meeting to celebrate PM Oli’s birthday.

Prime Minister Oli was born in February 23, 1952 in Terathum as the eldest child of Mohan Prasad and Madhumaya Oli.

KATHMANDU, Jan 25: Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri on Thursday said that India is ready to cooperate with the next government.

Speaking at a special interaction program organized on the eve of the 69th Republic Day of India at Reporters’ Club Nepal, Ambassador Puri said, “India and Nepal share a very positive and special bond. The Indian government will have immense support to the new government being formed in Nepal.”

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had held telephone conversations with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chair KP Oli and CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal to congratulate on the successful completion of all three tiers of election. Modi, a few days later, had called Oli again to congratulate him on the election success,which the left alliance swept, and even said that he was eager to welcome Oli in India after the formation of new government.

Envoy Puri said that Modi calling Oli was a positive message that India wants to cooperate Nepal in the further days ahead as well.

“After the completion of Nepal elections, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with top leaders of major three parties. He again telephoned CPN-UML Chair KP Oli sometimes later. It is a very positive message for both the countries,” he said adding, “Both the countries should make effort to boost the age-old bilateral relation.”

“Being the closest neighbors we share such warm and close bond in cultural, religious, political and people-to-people level. In international relation, if there is cooperation between the neighboring countries, it means win-win situation.”

“The relation between Nepal and India, especially the 70 years–after the independence of India–I want to say it’s the saga of permanent friendship and partnership of progress.”

“It’s a matter of happiness to me that we have friendship, partnership and cooperation.”

Puri further said that the economic relation between the two countries can be moved forward by establishing connectivity and partnership. He said, “Today, more than two-thirds of Nepal’s trade is in India. What we can do to each other is that: we can increase connectivity and activities in trade and business.”

“The biggest Integrated Check Post is ready in Birjung. We are waiting for some formalities to be completed. Establishment of such ICP in the single biggest transit will immensely move forward the growing business between Nepal and India,” he added. “It is a plan for the future as well.”

“Also, works on Integrated Check Post in Biratnagar has already started. India is making efforts to bring as such projects in bordering areas. After years of waiting, works on the biggest hydroelectric project Arun III has also started.”

“If connectivity like air links, rail links and so on are increased more and more between the two countries, both countries can benefit a lot. It is matter of happiness that together we are doing far better in connectivity, hydropower and people to people link.”

He further added both Nepal and India should keep on maintaining and bettering the partnership of progress and prosperity that we have at current. “We can both benefit a lot form this win-win situation,” he added.

Commenting on the 69th Republic Day of India, which is being celebrated on January 26, he said, “India became independent in 1947 after 200 years of colonial rule. In these 70 years of period, we have progressed a lot not only in economic development, but political development, national integrity, societal reform and transformation. And I, as an Indian citizen and ambassador, am proud of my country. A report of International Monetary Fund has said that India is set be gain the title of fastest growing economy in the world.”

“It is an opportunity for Nepal as well. India’s growth is an automatic plus for Nepal as well. Nepal has several befits from this,” he furthered.

Responding to a query on India’s view over the border dispute in Parsa, he clarified, “India and Nepal had agreed on border to be ‘fixed on border principles’ in 1998. The demarcation and strip maps have been prepared for the entire border. And as for the India-Nepal joint perusal, which is going on, the locations for the pillars we already there earlier and was pre-determined lines.”

“If there have been any changes in the ground, things have to discuss between both the governments,” he added.

KATHMANDU, Aug 14: Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri has said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s main policy has always been ‘neighborhood first’.

“With everyone, for everyone’s development, is the main motto of PM Modi. We work in solidarity for overall development,” said Envoy Puri while addressing an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Monday on the occasion of the 70th Independence Day of India.

“PM Modi’s policy has always been ‘neighborhood first’. Nepal shares border with five states of India. We have open border and have close linguistic, marital, religious and cultural ties at people to people level; we have trade partnership; and we have ‘special relationship’. India has high goodwill for Nepal and wants progress of Nepal and its people,” said Puri.

Ambassador Puri further said that Indian political leaders and people were dedicated to work in solidarity for country’s development and advised Nepalese leaders to show readiness to go along with the neighbor’s progress.

Stating that Nepal and India had four exchanges of high level visits in the past six months, he claimed that both the countries shared a positive and cordial bilateral relation. He added, “Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is visiting India on August 23 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Modi. His visit will prove to be a milestone in the bilateral history between Nepal and India.”

Implementation of past accords, India-funded projects and cross-border connectivity projects will be of high priority during PM Deuba’s five-day visit to India.

He further added that India as one of the largest democratic nation in the world would always extend assistance to Nepal in protecting and institutionalizing democracy in Nepal.

KATHMANDU, May 24: Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri has said that the bilateral relation between Nepal and India has always been positive and will remain the same until the end.

“Nepal-India relation is age old and unique. Both the countries Nepal and India are share cultural similarity and closeness. Our societal, economic relation is very special. And I believe, this relation will become stronger and more positive in the coming days,” he said while speaking during an interaction program at the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Wednesday.

He added that Nepal and India not only has the relation of roti and beti but also has exercised the military practice and interaction among armed forces.

Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after assuming office had first paid courtesy visit to Nepal, he added,” Indian Prime Minister Modi first visited Nepal in 2014. After that, such bilateral courtesy visits have been done frequently. In the past six months, six such high level visits have been made- which proves that Indo-Nepal relation is very close and positive.”

Puri stated that India has a huge support in the development of Nepal. he said, “India had already committed about one billion dollars for the post-quake reconstruction. 25o million dollars has been granted and 750 million dollars is in line of credit. ”

Stating that India has emerged as one of the fastest growing economy in the world, Puri added, “Nepal’s economic growth rate has also reached a par with that of India. We have a win win situation here.”

He also said that India in partnership with Nepal had initiated railway link connectivity, road construction, integrated checkpost and hydropower projects in the country.

Puri further said that India always wants to help and join economic partnership with Nepal. He said, “India are among the largest providers of lines of credit to Nepal and we want to make this even faster.”

Nepal has showed its commitment to implementation, and we are quite happy with Indian finance and Nepalese implementation.”

He also suggested Nepal to fast track such possibilities of development and head towards the stability and propriety.

He added, “India is and will remain strongly committed to help and partner with Nepal technologically, capacity wise and in terms of implementation.”

Puri also said that India has given Look East Policy a much sharper focus.

In a different note, Envoy Puri said that he as a diplomat will not make any comments on the political situation of Nepal.

He also thanked Reporters’ Club Nepal and extended best wishes to the club.

DHANUSHA, May 12: Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri, on Thursday said the development projects running in Nepal under Indian support would soon be completed.

At a felicitation program organized by Nepal – India Friendship Youth Association in Janakpur, the Indian envoy shared that the postal highway – the most important among the running projects – would be completed within a year.

Puri, who is the 24th Indian ambassador to Nepal, noted that Janakpur has played an important role in connecting the civilizations of Nepal and India. He added that a railway network between Nepal and India would promote tourism in both the countries.

The programme presided over by Association’s Chairman and lawmaker, Mahendra Yadav, was attended by the Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) leaders. RSS
