KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Prasad Poudel has pledged to implement the working journalist act to make the media sector more democratic and professional.

Receiving a report submitted by the Minimum Salary Fixation Committee today, Poudel also said that suggestions of the report would be implemented for making the media houses inclusive and the media sector systematic by collaborating with the Federation of Nepali Journalists.

He said a taskforce would be formed to co-work with stakeholders to make the online media systematic.

Minister Poudel said that positive environment of election has been created in the country and urged media persons to fulfil their responsibility by disseminating message of election to the doorsteps of people.

Submitting the report, Outgoing Chairman of Committee Govinda Acharya said only 2.38 per cent media houses have implemented all the services and facilities as provided in the Act and

New panel in Nepal Press Institute https://nepalireporter.com/2013/02/7140 https://nepalireporter.com/2013/02/7140#respond Fri, 08 Feb 2013 18:32:38 +0000 http://nepalireporter.com/?p=7140 KATHMANDU: The tenth annual general meeting of Nepal Press Institute (NPI), country’s pioneer media research and training institute, has unanimously elected a nine-member new working committee on Friday.

Shobha Gautam, Nilkantha Upreti, Tirtha Koirala, Kamal Pradhan, Tapanath Shukla, Manteswari Rajbhandari, Sharachchandra Wasti, Kundan Aryal and Laxma Upreti. Upreti is the former commissioner at the Election Commission while Koirala works at Kantipur Television.

Similarly, Pradhan is the former general manager of country’s news agency—National News Agency.

Likewise, Wasti is a noted linguist while former editor of Himal Magazine Aryal, a UML supporter, is a lecturer at RR College.

The Chairperson, Vice-chair, General Secretary and Treasurer will be appointed from among the newly elected working committee members.
