Scribes continue sit-in demanding security https://nepalireporter.com/2013/01/6280 https://nepalireporter.com/2013/01/6280#respond Fri, 25 Jan 2013 12:26:07 +0000 http://nepalireporter.com/?p=6280 KATHMANDU: The journalists Nepal Press Union (NPU) demonstrated in front of the Singha Durbar today demanding action against the murderers of Journalist Dekendra Raj Thapa of Dailekh.

The NPU staged a sit-in in Anamnagar after police barred them from demonstrating at the southern gate of the Singha Durbar.

President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Shiva Gaunle also attended the demonstrations and accused the government of protecting the murder accused of Journalist Thapa.

Gaunle argued that displacement of Dailekh-based 22 journalists is like a displacement of democracy from the country and warned of launching protests by closing down works by all media houses across the nation if an environment for work for the 22 was not made by returning them to the district.

Chairman of NPU, Kiran Pokhrel, said that the Prime Minister should take responsibility of the Dailekh-based journalists if any harm is done to them.
Pokhrel said giving threats to journalists by cadres of the ruling parties and protecting the cadres by the state is condemnable.
