SURKHET, July 29: A one mega watt hydropower project is to be constructed at Gadigaon in ward no. 1 of Patarasi rural municipality of Jumla.

The project is being constructed at the total cost of Rs. 4.2 million, including financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank and the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre, according to the project construction committee chair Gor Bahadur Budha.

The cost includes Rs. 2.6 million for the power house and Rs. One million for the transmission line.

Meanwhile, the State government is also to contribute to the project. “This project will light up entire Jumla, directly benefitting around 16,000 population,” internal affairs and law minister Naresh Bhandari said. RSS

The administration enforced the curfew to prevent the clashes between the Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist cadres that ensued over a petty issue between the CPN-M cadre Manoj Budhathoki Magar and NC cadre Ghanshayam on June 8.

Similarly, talks between the agitating parties and officials held last night also made no headway. The talks were initiated by the Federation of Nepali Journalist Jumla chapter.

The talks ended inconclusively after the CPN-Maoist refused to sit for talks as its two members of talks team were arrested by the police, said former lawmaker Naresh Bhandari.

Hills have been covered with snow due to snowfall and minimum temperature of the district has come down to minus 10 degrees Celsius, according to Climate Field Office, Jumla.

Mostly, the upper part settlements of Jumla, Dolpa and Mugu districts have been affected due to the snowfall.

Computers, fax-machines and vehicles are non operational after diesel started to be frozen due to cold.

According to the District Education Office, the snowfall has also affected the examinations started at government and community schools from November 29.However, the climate in the district is normal from 8:00 am today. RSS
