KATHMANDU, Dec 25: The District Administration Office Kalikot has lifted the indefinite curfew that had been effective in the district headquarter Manma since Friday afternoon.

The curfew was lifted after the probe committee formed by the Home Ministry under the leadership of Joint-secretary Man Bahadur BK reached the headquarters to investigate into the incident. The probe committee will begin its task today itself.

However, the surrounding of the District Administration Office will remain restricted zone, said the District Office.

Kalikot District Administration Office had clamped an indefinite curfew in Manma after the protesters intensified demonstration demanding stern against the guilty and compensation to temporary police Bibek Aidi’s family.

The 20-year-old Aidi of Raskot Municipality-2 was shot to death by police on Friday during a clash between the protestors and police. The clash had erupted out after the police started baton charging and lobbing tear gas shells toward the temporary cops who were picketing the District Police Office expressing disappointment over their pay cuts and other perks by including unnecessary charges.

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Nepali Police Spokesperson, DIG Manoj Neupane has claimed that the temporary police (Myadi) deployed in Kalikot during the election were already provided with specified salary and other perks.

“Myadi Police in Kalikot were under no circumstances to demonstrate and picket the District Police Office. After the conclusion of election, they were bid farewell with honor and gratitude providing certificates, salary and other perks,” said Neupane while speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Sunday.

“The clash broke out after the farewell. We have already formed a committee to probe into how the incident took place,” he added. “We are also investigating over Aidi’s death.”

The district headquarter of Kalikot, Manma has remained tensed since Friday afternoon following the killing of temporary police Bibek Aidi, 20 of Raskot Municipality, who was apparently shot in the head by the security force during the protest staged by the temporary police expressing dissatisfaction over their pay cuts and other perks by including unnecessary charges. The district headquarter has clamped an indefinite curfew to maintain peace and order.

But Neupane said, “Their salary and bonus amount including special allowance of 55 days period was deposited in their respective account. Their (temporary police) claim that they have not been given the specified renumeration (which is Rs 17,230 per month plus Rs 250 as special allowance and Rs 250 for lunch and food for seven days, Rs 4,000 for uniform and Rs 1,000 as transportation allowance) is not  true.”

“They were already detailed about their salary and allowances before recruiting them,” he added. About 98,268 temporary police were deployed for the recently concluded federal parliament and province assembly elections.

He also said that the police are investigating over the complaints that the police had harassed women temporary police. He however said that no such complaints were officially registered till the date.

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The indefinite curfew which was lifted for two hours from 8 am to 10 am today morning in Manma, district headquarter of Kalikot, has been imposed again.

The Kalikot District Administration Office clamped an indefinite curfew since 4:30 pm on Saturday afternoon in order to maintain peace and order after the locals intensified the protest following the death of a Maydi (temporary) police on Friday. Bibek Aidi, 20 of Raskot Municipality-2 was shot in his head by security personnel during a clash between protestors and police force.

Chief District Officer, Badrinath Gaire, said that the curfew has been imposed again as there was no sign of the tense situation coming under control. The clampdown will remain effective until the situation becomes normal again, he added.

Meanwhile, a discussion was underway at the DAO among the victim side, civil society, political parties and the DAO itself to resolve the matter, said Gaire.

The tension had broken out after the police started baton charging and lobbing tear gas shells toward the temporary cops who were picketing the District Police Office expressing disappointment over their pay cuts.

The protestors have demanded Aidi be declared martyrs. The government has already formed a probe committee under the leadership of Ministry of Home Affairs Joint-Secretary, Man Bahadur BK into the alleged irregularities in the salary and decided to provide Rs 1 million ex-gratia to the family.
