KATHMANDU, Aug 31: Law, Justice and Federal Affairs Minister Yagya Bahadur Thapa has assured that the laws related to elections of Federal Parliament and Province Assembly would be formulated as soon as possible.

The government has promised to ready all the laws related to provincial and federal election by mid-August but due to legal hurdles, it has remained stuck at the parliamentary State Affairs Committee for the past several months.

“The required laws will be readied very soon. I promise that the government will not let a little delay in formulating the laws hamper the Election Commission in its poll preparation stated for November 26 and December 7,” said Minister Thapa while speaking during an interaction program organized by the Repoerter’s Club Nepal on Thursday.

“Discussions are being carried out. We are also working out on amendment to the bills related to elections,” he added.

It may be noted that 18 lawmakers have proposed amendment to the bill related to provincial and federal election demanding that the corrupt leaders should be allowed to contest in the polls three years after serving the sentence.

Meanwhile, the Constitution Delimitation Committee has already submitted its report to the government.

On the occasion, Minister Thapa, also a leader of Nepali Congress, said that Nepali Congress could contest in the Province 2 local election without forming poll alliance with any other political parties. “Nepali Congress is an influential party. Even without alliance, we can emerge as the first party in the third round local polls,” he claimed.
