KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Results of September 18 third phase of local level elections have been announced at 130 levels out of 136 of eights districts in Province No 2. 

According to the latest election results updates provided by the Joint Election Operation Centre (JEOC) based in the Election Commission, so far the Nepali Congress has won the elections (mayor/ chief) at 37 levels, Federal Socialist Forum at 25 levels and CPN (Maoist Centre) at 21 levels.

Similarly, the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal has secured its positions at 24 levels, CPN (UML) at 17, Nepal Democratic Forum at three and Nepali Janata Dal at two levels.

The Naya Shakti Nepal has opened its account at one level.

According to EC Spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal, so far voting counting has been complete at 1,233. Now, results of six levels and 38 wards are awaited.

BIRGUNJ, Aug 21: Election Commissioner Ishwori Prasad Poudel has reaffirmed the confidence of the Election Commission of Nepal to hold the third phase of local level election in province no 2 in September 18.

At an interaction here today, Commissioner Poudel shared that although the Commission had expressed its dissent over the date it reconsidered its stance following political consensus among the political parties for the same.

Poudel also urged the voters in province no 2 not to cast their ballots to the candidates in the upcoming election who do not abide by the election code of conduct. According to him, the political party representatives had formulated the code the conduct for themselves.
Stating that the impending third phase of local level, provincial and House of Representatives elections would be held within stipulated time, he said the Commission had also forwarded the voter education in an effective manner so as to reduce the number of invalid votes.

Similarly, Commission’s Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma shared that the voters roll was being prepared considering the new federal set up as per the government’s decision.
Works relating to election such as preparing voters name list, printing of the ballot papers and determining the polling centers were underway, according to the Spokesperson Sharma.

Sharma urged the voters to exercise their franchise without any fear and influence of any political party.

Present at the event were the Chie Returning Officer at the District Election Officer, Parsa, Humnath Parajuli, Purusottam Jha and Dhruba Adhikari among others local leaders and media persons.

They brought to the fore the local issues such the flood-damaged roads in their locality which could affect the voters to reach their respective polling centers and launch of voter education in as many as places to educate and aware the voters. RSS

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The Nepali Congress (NC) has intensified preparations for the upcoming third-phase of local level election scheduled to be held in the Province 2 coming September 18.

Only this province covering eight districts in the Southeastern Nepal from Parsa to Saptari remains to hold the local-level election.

In a meeting of the party central works execution committee that has been underway at the party central office, Sanepa, Lalitpur since Tuesday morning, the party leaders pressed the party leadership to take such an election strategy that may help to regain its position.

The party was limited to the second position in the first and second rounds of the election. As party central leader Dr Narayan Khadka shared the party was in the mentality to self compensate the loss that it had faced in the six provinces, from the Province number 2 election, by making corrections of past mistakes.

Finalization of election official candidates on time, effective publicity campaign and addressing the intra-party grudges will be given high priority this time, he added.

The meeting discussed the issues of making official initiations to move the constitution amendment proposal ahead, making the people aware of some Madhes demands that were already addressed by the government and effectively mobilizing all-party mechanism to win the people’s trust for the election.

Prior to this, the NC had on April 20-21 organized a gathering of central leaders, district presidents, lawmakers from there, former central members, former lawmakers and regional presidents from the Province 2 in Kathmandu in view of the third round of election.

More, the party has already held a mass meeting in the Province as part of the Sept 18 election preparations. Stating that the party had always worked in favor of a prosperous Madhes and empowered Madhesi people, it has called on the Madhesi people to vote for the party in the election. RSS

JHAPA, Aug 7: Jhalnath Khanal, senior leader of CPN-UML has claimed that his party will lead in the local level election in province 2 as well.

“Addressing a press meet at Biratmod, Jhapa on Monday, leader Khanal said, “UML became the first party in the first and second round of local level election. We will retain our position as the largest party in the third round of election as well.”

“No one could stop us from becoming the first party,” he added.

The third round of election is scheduled in Province 2 on September 18.

On the occasion, Khanal further stating that the country is celebrating this year as the election year, added the election fever has gripped the country to conclude the remaining task of the constitution implementation.

He further said that the polls would be held in time at any cost. He also accused the government of dillydallying to announce date of provincial and federal elections.

KATHMANDU, July 11: Local level election results of all 334 levels of 35 districts of Province No 1, 5 and 7 have been announced.

According to the result, the CPN (UML) leads with 151 posts of Mayor/Chair, Nepali Congress in 122, CPN (Maoist Centre) in 38, Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum in 8, Nepal Loktantrik Forum in 6, Rastriya Prajatantra Party in 4 and Rastriya Janamorcha in 2 units.

Similarly, independent candidates also won in 3 places. In deputy mayor and Vice-chair, UML leads with 175, NC with 104, CPN-MC with 38, Socialist Forum with seven, Democratic Forum with six and Janamorcha and RPP with two each, according to Election Commission Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.

As per the result details, UML has won 45.2 percent seats, NC 36.5 per cent and the Maoist Centre in 11.4 per cent. As many as 15,038 representatives were elected in the elections in the second round of local poll. It is stated that 4,740,522 votes were cast in the election. RSS

Kathmandu, June 28: The second phase of the local level elections is being held in Province nos 1, 5 and 7 today with 62,408 candidates in the fray.

Of the total number, 41 candidates have already been elected unopposed. There are 8,364 voting centres for the elections being held from 7 am to 5 pm.

The voters will be exercising their franchise to elect rural municipalities’ chairperson, vice chairperson, ward chairperson, municipalities’ mayor, deputy mayor and ward chairperson, ward member, woman ward member and Dalit woman ward member.

More than 6.4 million voters will take part in the elections to choose 15,038 local representatives. The government has set up 4,581 voting stations and 8,364 voting centres. Apart from the security forces, 66,900 employees have been mobilized for the elections.

The Election Commission (EC) has urged the voters to vote assuredly citing its full preparation and the necessary security arrangements. The first round of the local level elections was held in Province nos 3, 4 and 6 on May 14. The third phase of the local polls will be held in Province no 2 on September 18. RSS

NAWALPARASI, JUNE 27: The local administration in Nawalparasi has adopted high security alertness at seven local units for the local level elections.

The security measure has been adopted for holding the local polls in a peaceful and fearless environment. The local authorities have designated 70 voting stations in seven units of Province no 5 as highly sensitive zones.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Udaya Bahadur Rana said a special security arrangement has been made for voting stations deemed as highly sensitive. Rana added that choppers may also be used for air patrol if necessary at these locations.

There are a total of 240 voting centres in seven local units in Nawalparasi – the security of which will be handled by around 4000 security personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF), temporary police, National Investigation Department and Nepal Army (NA).

Meanwhile, police have arrested four persons in course of a probe into an explosion in Sunabal which resulted in human casualties.

Police arrested the four in suspicion that Biplov led CPN could be behind the explosion which injured Purushottam Regmi of Binayitriveni rural municipality – 3, Kanti Shanker Parajuli of Sarabal rural municipality – 1, Durga Devi Pandey of Sunbal Municipality – 12 and Dhan Bahadur Kumal of Madhyabindu Municipality – 9. SURUNGA, June 26: Nepal-India border in Jhapa district has been sealed for the next 72 hours beginning from today in view of the June 28 second phase local level elections going to take place in 35 districts.

Checkpoints along the Nepal-India border including the Kakarvitta and Bhadrapur have been shut for the next 72 hours, according to Jhapa’s Chief District Officer Uttam Kumar Khatri. Some 118 kilometers land of eastern and southern Jhapa shares border with India.

Likewise, the sale and transport of liquor has been banned in the district during the election period.

Likewise, vehicles except those obtaining permission from the District Administration Office, Jhapa for operation on the day of election (June 28) are to remain off the road that day, Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Sharma said. RSS
