BAITEDI, Feb 17: The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has changed the name and center of 12 local level units in the far-western province.

The names of the local level units and centers in Baitedi, Darchula, Bajhang, Dadeldhura, Doti and Bajura have been changed on the recommendation of the concerned village and town assembly, in accordance with the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 (2017). The names of nine local level centers and five names were changed, according to the Ministry.

Accordingly, the Khanda rural municipality in Bajhang has been changed to Saipal, Bogatan rural municipality of Doti to Bogatan-Fungshil, Pandavgufa rural municipality of Bajura to Jagannath and Swarmikartik rural municipality to Swamikarti Khapa and Chededaha rural municipality to Khaptad-Chededaha rural municipality.

Prior to this, the Ministry had changed the name and centers of 98 local level units across the country. As a result, the government has issued directives to the concerned authorities to function as per the new name and center. RSS

KATHMANDU, Sept 20: The Ministry of General Administration has concluded the first phase of civil servants transfer process. Under this process, 1,424 civil servants have been transferred, said section officer at the Ministry’s administration section Lilaraj Kafle.

The transfer has been made, to various ministries, and sectors like the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, taking into account the urgency, and this is not the regular process to transfer civil servants, he said.

According to the Ministry 117 under secretaries, and 80 officers have been transferred to Ministry of Local Development.

Others include 766 non-gazetted first class officers, and 461 non-gazetted second class officers. All the transferred bureaucrats have received transformation letters, said Kafle.

The Ministry was preparing to send additional civil servants to local levels if needed, he added. RSS

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The Supreme Court has approved the government’s decision of making changes in the number of local level units.

The SC scrapped the writ petition registered by advocate Dhan Bahadur Shrestha and Krishna Chandra Jha against government’s decision in this regard.

After the SC’s decision, door is now open for the government to increase the number of local-level units in Tarai. A division bench of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli and judge Purushottam Bhandari on Thursday scrapped the decision.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government had decided to increase 22 local-level units in Tarai-Madhes districts.

Meanwhile, welcoming the SC’s decision, Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) said that the decision has created environment conducive for election.

General Secretary of the party, Keshav Jha said that the SC’s decision was very positive and it has created environment conducive for the party to participate in the election.

Jha also urged the government to forward the constitution amendment proposal immediately. RSS

BHAKTAPUR, July 12: The newly elected mayor of Bhaktapur municipality, Sunil Prajapati, called on the government to quickly formulate Act and laws for governance of the local bodies.

At a public hearing program held on Tuesday by the municipality, Prajapati said, “The government on the one hand is cutting down the rights of the local levels while on the other we have a stockpile of works added up from many years when there had not been people’s representatives; but it has been difficult in carrying out the works as the government is yet to formulate the needed Act and laws related to the local units.”

Prajapati added further that preparations were underway to realize an objective of making Bhaktapur a model city of transparency. He also gave assurances of implementing the programs mentioned in the electoral declaration paper and as per people’s aspirations.

On the occasion, deputy mayor, Rajani Joshi, said the people must monitor all the works undertaken by the municipal office.

The participating locals called for setting up toilets at various locations for tourists, arrangement of online registration of maps, filming a documentary of the reconstruction of the heritage sites, transferring the bigger industries from the Bhaktapur industrial corridor, banning the entry of bigger vehicles into the town from 8 am to 6 pm and controlling the street dogs and other domestic animals.
