BUTWAL, Dec 16: A special committee formed to suggest the name and the capital of Province 5 has proposed ‘Lumbini’ as the new name of the province.

The committee has also forwarded the three names: Sainamaina, Buddhabhumi and Bhalubang-Lamahi as the possible capital cities of the province.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held in January last year had declared ‘Butwal’ as the interim state capital until Province Assembly names a new one.

But, due to the row over whether fix Dang or Rupendehi as the capital even among the lawmakers of the ruling Nepal Communist Party has delayed in finalizing the name.

Although the new constitution establised Province 5 as one of the seven federal provinces four years ago, names of only three provinces (Karnali, Suderpaschim, Gandaki) have been finalized so far.

KATHMANDU: A team of 95 Buddhist monks and disciples from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia is arriving here on Friday in connection with the Visit Lumbini Year-2012.

The team is arriving here at the invitation of the Charumati Buddhist Mission Nepal, the Charumati Buddha Vihar and the World Youth Buddhist Monks Association Nepal branch.

During its two-day stay in Nepal, the Buddhist delegation will call on the Prime Minister and visit Lumbini, Swayambhunath and Boudhdhanath.

The members of the delegation will also perform a Buddha prayer at the 2,300 years old Charumati Stupa wishing for world peace.

President of the World Youth Buddhist Monks Association Nepal branch and Chief of the Charumati Buddha Vihar, Bhikkhu Tapaswi Dhamma, said this visit of a team of Buddhist monks from the South East Asian countries will help promote Nepal and contribute to the development of Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha.
