BUTWAL: The newly elected Chairman of CPN (UML)’s youth organization— Youth Association of Nepal (YAN) Mahesh Basnet has said that the YAN would not spare the corrupt figures in the politics and society.

Organizing a press conference after his winning to the top post of the YAN, Basnet, a blue-eyed boy of UML leader KP Oli, said corruption and looting would not be spared.

“In the past, Youth Force ended the physical terror of the Maoists. Now, we have to finish off Maoists’ psychological fear,” he added.

Basnet was talking to media for the first time after his winning in the top post of the YAN. The eight general convention of the YAN had ended on Tuesday by reelecting Basnet to the post of Chairman. The convention concluded after two more days than originally scheduled due to the election process and conflict in the YAN during the convention.

As per the result, Basnet secured the post with 742 votes while his rival Niraj Acharya won 610 votes. The Basnet faction has dominated in most of the posts of the YAN executive committee.

Similarly, Jhapat Bahadur Rawal, Niru Pal, Dil Kumari Panta, Surya Dhakal and Raju Gurung were elected the vice-chairpersons of the YAN. All of them except Gurung are from the Basnet’s panel. Similarly, Rajib Pahari was elected in the post of general secretary by defeating his rival Baburam Thapa.

Notorious don Parshuram Basnet, who mercilessly thrashed journalist Khilanath Dhakal, was elected the central member of the YAN under the open competition.

Likewise, Kiran Poudel, Ashok Kumar Chand, Ramesh Kumar Poudel and Naresh Kumar Shahi were elected secretaries under the free competition quotas while Manju Yadav (Madhesi), Kranti Burlakoti (Woman), Chandra Lama (Janajati), Sarojdilu Bishwakarma (Dalit) and Hasta Bahadur Shahi (backward region) were elected the secretaries under the reservation quotas.

The general convention also elected Govinda Bahadur Thapa as the treasurer by defeating Mahesh Kumar Bista.

Likewise, Hira Chandra KC was elected as the chair of disciplinary commission and Kamal Raj Pathak as the chair of accounts commission.

All the leaders from the Basnet camp were elected as the members under the open competition. A total of 29 had vied for the 11 posts.
