KATHMANDU, Dec 21: CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center), constituents of the left alliance, will formally begin the unity process from Friday.

A meeting of the party coordination committee of the Left alliance, comprising of senior leaders of both parties, will be held tomorrow which will map concrete plans to materialize the unification process, said Maoist Center leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

UML, which emerged as the largest party in the recently concluded federal parliament and province assembly election, has also started discussion today to finalize its agenda for the unification process. The meeting will also discuss the formation of a new government and power-sharing issues, said UML leader and former House Speaker Subash Nembang.

UML will also make its concept clear about the Nation Assembly Election Ordinance, which is pending at the Office of President.

“UML will look for a solution to the row on National Assembly Election through discussion as it is a political matter,” said Nembang.

“It is sad that the government seem disinterested to carry out discussion the ordinance. But, if the government won’t, then as the largest party UML will initiate the discussion,” he added.

UML has accused the Nepali Congress-led government of putting the single transferable vote system for the formation of National Assembly, by evading the parliamentary committee’s decision of majority votes. On the contrary, Nepali Congress has reiterated that it would step down and transfer the power to the left alliance only after electing National Assembly.

Meanwhile, President has urged the political parties to find understanding on the ordinance to National Assembly Election.
