KATHMANDU, Oct 29: Around a dozen leaders and cadres along with Naya Shakti Nepal’s central council member Basu Pokharel joined the CPN (Maoist Center) on Sunday.

CPN-MC Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ welcomed them amid a program held in the capital city.

On the occasion, MC Chairperson Dahal said that there was no alternative to leftist alliance and his party for the development and prosperity of Gorkha district.

Dahal, also the former Prime Minister, claimed that Gorkha district was the base for the leftist force and only the Maoist Center had the plans and programs to give impetus to the social, economic development of the district.

According to him, Naya Shakti Nepal’s leader Baburam Bhattarai’s latest move to enter an electoral alliance with Nepali Congress would put Bhattarai and his party in jeopardy.

Leader Pokharel after being welcomed to CPN-MC explained,” There is no political future and prosperity for country through fringe groups. I was earlier in CPN-MC and left it for Naya Shakti Nepal assuming that Bhattarai would do something notable. But the party’s significance itself is at stake.”

Pokharel is the candidate of election to House of Representatives from Kathmandu constituency no 5.

Also speaking at the program, CPN-MC leader and candidate from the Gorkha constituency no 2 Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that there was a trend to enter CPN-MC from Naya Shakti Nepal lately.

He expressed his confidence that the leftist alliance would ensure stability and prosperity in the country.

KATHMANDU, June 4: The ruling party CPN (Maoist Center) leader Haribol Gajurel has argued that despite Maoist Center (MC)’s successful stay at the government, their defeat in the local level election was due to their own weakness.

“The works done in MC’s leadership were satisfactory. However, in the local level election, the results didn’t come in our favor. We could not win as much seats as we expected. It is because we were unable to press the right information to the people,” said Gajurel.

“Also, another reason for loss is the failure in polling alliance,” he added.

MC were able to garner only 16 percent votes in the first phase of local level election and leader Gajurel expects his party to emerge victorious in at least 20 percent of local levels. However, he accepts that his party was not so successful and the results were unexpected.

“The result has given MC some serious thoughts. We are carrying out debate and discussion regarding such results.”

He further said that MC became weak as they failed to form organizations after their unification with smaller other Maoist parties. “The organization could not function for six months. Also, we were unable to deliver message down to the lower level.”
